MOON AREA WINTER GUARD
There are four remaining competition dates.  For more information, visit www.trwea.org.  Come on out and support our Color Guard!! 

Students are needed for the Winter Color Guard Floor Crew for the upcoming season.  If interested, please speak with a member of the color guard or Mr. Barthen.

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE
Beginning in February, the Nominations Committee will be accepting nominations for the 2018/2019 Executive Board Committee.  If you are interested in running for a position in April, please send your name and desired position to  nominations@moonband.org  before the March meeting.  The Nominations Committee will prepare a slate of candidates. The Executive Board Committee includes the following positions:

Treasurer
Secretary
VP of Communications
VP of Concessions
VP of Corporate Partnership
VP of Fundraising
VP of Publicity

There is at least one nominee for all positions except VP of Concessions.  If you have any questions about the position, please

FUNDRAISING
The Sarris Candy fundraiser orders and payments are due on Thursday, February 22.  Order forms and information sheets are still available in the band room.  Sarris Candy delivery will be on Tuesday, March, 27, just in time for Easter.
Catalogs and Order forms are available in the band room.  Information sheets and order forms are available on the band website.  Digital catalogs are available at HERE. Orders are due on February 22.

The Pittsburgh Popcorn fundraiser begins on Tuesday, February 20.  The delicious popcorn comes packaged re-sealable, stay-fresh bags.  Orders will be due on 
Thursday, March 8
 and delivery will be on Wednesday, April 4Information sheets, brochures, and order forms and master order form are available on-line and in the band room.

UPCOMING EVENTS AT HEINZ FIELD
A big thank you to all of the parents who participated in our very successful season raising money for our band and orchestra students at Heinz Field!  I am happy to announce that we have been invited to work for Aramark at PNC Park for the upcoming baseball season.  This is a great opportunity for any parent to raise some or all of the money needed for your individual band or orchestra student throughout their time in the organization.  I hope lots of parents take advantage of this offer because it benefits both you as an individual and the entire organization.  Information about training and schedules will be forthcoming.  If you have any interest in learning more about this program, please contact Heather Park at hburakow@yahoo.com.

UMBRELLAS
The MABPO is selling large red and white paneled golf umbrellas with “Moon Area” and the tiger logo printed on one panel.  Umbrellas are $15.00 each.  If you'd like to buy an umbrella, please contact Sherri directly at

UNIFORMS
The following positions are available for Job Shadow:

BAND UNIFORM COORDINATOR JOB SHADOW: Responsible for all aspects of band uniform care and fitting.  Will coordinate uniform fittings and alterations during summer months, record keeping, uniform assignments, coordinate shoe order (including guard), uniform cleaning (done by professional cleaners) coordinate the chaperoning of uniforms (including guard) before/after any event requiring a uniform (football games, competitions, parades, concerts, etc.). Coordinate Band, C/G & Orchestra Jacket orders.  Works as a team with Color Guard Uniform Coordinator and Formal Wear Coordinator.

BAND DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS:  Mr. Nick Barthen
THANK YOU! - I would like to thank the chaperones and students on a great Florida Trip.  The marching band performed wonderfully at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom this past Thursday, earning praise from not only WDW Staff, but from audience members from around the world.  Make-sure to log-intowww.moonband.org to check out the pictures documenting this trip. 

Winter Guard Show at Penn-Trafford - 2/24/18
The MAHS Winter Color Guard travels to Penn-Trafford this weekend to perform their 2nd show of the season.  The group performs at 6:46.  Floor Crew will need to be at the H.S. at 3:30pm.  Additional information will be distributed to the Winter Guard Members soon.

Jazz Band 1 Rehearsal will be Cancelled for this week!

Pit Orchestra for the Wizard of OZ

The Pit Orchestra will be ramping back up again with rehearsal on Tuesday, 2/20
 from 6-9pm
 and Thursday, from 6-9pm.  Please plan accordingly.

Private Instrumental Lessons
Private Instrumental lessons is a great way to excel on your instrument. Not only will you learn specific techniques on your instrument, from a teacher who is an expert on your instrument, but also it will open doors to new repertoire, solo, ensemble, etc. Private lessons will also provide confidence when performing in an ensemble or auditioning for any PMEA festival. Contact Mr. Barthen for a complete list of private instructors in the area.

Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov for additional information.

To alleviate the hustle of departure on 2/13, we will handle luggage check-ins on Monday, February 12.  Students specific time are listed below.  These times will start at 6:00PM and run through 9PM.  Someone who is related to the luggage must be present while the luggage is being inspected.

Students will not be permitted to leave check-in on Monday

- STUDENTS CANNOT LEAVE THE CAMPUS ONCE YOU ARRIVE AT MAHS
- DO NOT BRING FOOD OR DRINK INTO AUDITORIUM

STEP 1
Check-in Medications with MEDIC (ZIP-LOCK BAG WITH FORM)
ALL OTC MEDICATION MUST BE NEW/UN-OPENED
- ALL PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION MUST BE IN PRESCRIBED BOTTLE
- Check-in carry-on bags, backpacks, purses, coats, etc.  You NEED to pack your swimsuit in your carry on, we are stopping at the beach FIRST. I would bring extra clothes in your carry-on for the bus, and bring blankets and pillows, toothbrush, etc.
- Medication check will take place near the student entrance principals office.
- Carry-on check in will take place in the same spot as luggage check-in occurred

STEP 2
-
After your CARRY-ONS are checked, take CARRY-ONS TO DESIGNATED HALLWAYS BY BUS.  You will not be permitted to access these bags until you board the bus
-TAKE luggage to student entrance.
- RETRIEVE YOUR PERFORMANCE ATTIRE AND LOAD IT UNDERNEATH YOUR BUS


STEP 3
-
Load Instrument and Equipment, both MARCHING and ORCHESTRA
- ALL EQUIPMENT WILL GO UNDERNEATH YOUR OWN BUS.
- Bass drummers snares on BUS 3

STEP 4
- Sit in Auditorium for dismissal

FUNDRAISING

Delivery for the Chocolate Boutique fundraiser is this Wednesday, February 7, from 4-5:30 PM, in the high school cafeteria.  Please be prompt!

Orders and payments for the NewMe's Pies fundraiser are due this Thursday, February 8
.  Delivery will be on March 27.  No late orders please.  Order forms and information can be found in the band room or on-line.

STUDENT ACCOUNTS:

Beginning in February, the Nominations Committee will be accepting nominations for the 2018/2019 Executive Board Committee.  If you are interested in running for a position in April, please send your name and desired position to  nominations@moonband.org  before the March meeting.  The Nominations Committee will prepare a slate of candidates. The Executive Board Committee includes the following positions:

UPCOMING EVENTS AT HEINZ FIELD

A big thank you to all of the parents who participated in our very successful season raising money for our band and orchestra students at Heinz Field!  I am happy to announce that we have been invited to work for Aramark at PNC Park for the upcoming baseball season.  This is a great opportunity for any parent to raise some or all of the money needed for your individual band or orchestra student throughout their time in the organization.  I hope lots of parents take advantage of this offer because it benefits both you as an individual and the entire organization.  Information about training and schedules will be forthcoming.  If you have any interest in learning more about this program, please contact Heather Park at hburakow@yahoo.com.

UNIFORMS
The following positions are available for Job Shadow:

BAND UNIFORM COORDINATOR JOB SHADOW: Responsible for all aspects of band uniform care and fitting.  Will coordinate uniform fittings and alterations during summer months, record keeping, uniform assignments, coordinate shoe order (including guard), uniform cleaning (done by professional cleaners) coordinate the chaperoning of uniforms (including guard) before/after any event requiring a uniform (football games, competitions, parades, concerts, etc.). Coordinate Band, C/G & Orchestra Jacket orders.  Works as a team with Color Guard Uniform Coordinator and Formal Wear Coordinator.

COLOR GUARD/WINTER GUARD UNIFORM COORDINATOR JOB SHADOW: Responsible for all aspects of uniform care and fitting.  Will coordinate uniform fittings and alterations during summer months, record keeping, uniform assignments,  uniform cleaning (done at home).  Works as a team with Band Uniform Coordinator and Flag Sewing Coordinator.

FINANCIAL UPDATE - Band Florida Performance Tour - 2/05/18
PLEASE SUBMIT PAYMENTS ASAP!!!   If there are financial issues that is delaying you in making the last payment, please contact Mrs. Vicki Hricz, MABPO Treasurer (treasurer@moonband.org) to make arrangements.  Students will not be permitted to board the bus without full payment or a payment plan signed and notarized.  

MANDATORY FLORIDA PARENT MEETING - MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2018 - 7PMMAHS AUDITORIUM
The Florida Trip Meeting will be held on Monday, February 5 at 7PM in the H.S. Auditorium.  Overview of policies, forms, and requirements will be discussed.  A parent/legal guardian over the age of 21 must attend this meeting for the student who is traveling.  Students may attend, but are not required.  If there are questions, concerns, or date conflicts, please contact your ensemble teacher ASAP.

Private Instrumental Lessons
Private Instrumental lessons is a great way to excel on your instrument. Not only will you learn specific techniques on your instrument, from a teacher who is an expert on your instrument, but also it will open doors to new repertoire, solo, ensemble, etc. Private lessons will also provide confidence when performing in an ensemble or auditioning for any PMEA festival. Contact Mr. Barthen for a complete list of private instructors in the area.

Rehearsals for students attending Disney Trip 
All Orchestra students attending the Florida Tour must attend the rehearsals on Wednesday, February 7th from 2:30-3:40 and Monday, February 12th from 2:30-3:40. Again, both rehearsals are MANDATORY for all Orchestra students attending the Florida Trip.

Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov for additional information.
