GOLF OUTING PLANNING MEETING
Thursday, January 28th, there will be a virtual zoom meeting for anyone interested in helping with or learning more about the planning of the MABPO golf outing scheduled for May. If you are able to donate your time or talents in any way, before the outing or the day of, we would love to have you join in to make this outing amazing!

Our annual Spring Sarris Candies fundraiser begins on Tuesday, January 26. Orders and payments are due on Tuesday, February 16. Delivery will be on Thursday, March 25, just in time for Spring Break, Easter and Mother's Day.

There will be a Tropical Smoothie Fundraiser on February 8th and 9th from 4-8 pm. Stop by for an after-school snack or dinner. Menu includes smoothies, flatbread, wraps, sandwiches, salads and more. Tell your cashier that you are dining to support Moon Area Band Parent Organization.

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE FOR EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS
We still need volunteers for the nominations committee. The annual election of executive board members will be held at the April general membership meeting. In order to facilitate the election, we are in need of 3-5 individuals interested in serving on the nominations committee. Members of this committee will be responsible for gathering the names of those MABPO members interested in serving on the executive board next year, creating a ballot, and carrying out the voting and counting procedures. No prior training is needed for this committee. If interested, please contact Amy at firstname.lastname@example.org .
We still need volunteers to be on the scholarship committee. MABPO is looking for 3-4 individuals to serve on the scholarship committee. Committee members may NOT be parents of 2021 Seniors. If interested, please contact Amy at email@example.com .
SENIOR MEMORY BOOKS
It's that time of year to begin working on the Senior Memory Books. MAPBO gives each senior a personalized memory photo book commemorating their years in the Moon Band. This year we have 30 seniors! If you are interested in helping with the books or just learning more about them, please stay after Thursday's band parent meeting for a brief memory book meeting. February Winter Concerts
The MAHS Winter Band Concert will be tentatively held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 7:00pm in the MAHS Auditorium. Full group rehearsals for the concerts will be scheduled as follows:
Concert Band: Wednesday, February 3 - 2:30pm-4:00pm
Symphonic Band: Wednesday, February 3 - 6:30pm-8:00pm
At this time, the concert will be a live streamed only event. Spectators/audience members will not be permitted to attend the performance. A YouTube link will be provided on Monday, February 1 and shared. This will be sent home via the MABPO Weekly Newsletter and e-mail, e-mail sent via Skyward, as well as posted on TEAMS.

Instrument Bell Covers/Bags and FACEMASKS
Due to the mask mandate in Allegheny County, we are going to ask students who play a wind instrument to supply an extra mask that may be kept in their instrument case. Below you will find a link to a short video explaining how to cut a small slit (enough to fit their mouthpiece through) to wear during class. This extra precaution accompanies the instrument bags or bell covers they have been using while in band classes since the start of the school year.
There are also several websites selling “instrumentalist masks”. These may be purchased if you would like, but a disposable mask or a spare fabric mask at home will work fine as well. We will begin playing in class starting Monday, January 11th so we would ask students to be prepared with a second mask upon entering the music rooms.
In addition, bell covering, and instrument bags are required for all students performing inside/in class. These devices SHOULD NOT BE IMMERSED IN WATER. To clean/disinfect these bags, they can be wiped down with a Clorox Wipe and let to air dry.

Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov for additional information.
