Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting 

May 17, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 

The minutes from the April meeting has been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Denise Wolf and seconded by Sarah Schmitz.

Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo 

The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Cindy Stathers and seconded by Laurie Caraher.


President’s Comments, Sherri Von Stein 

Thank you to the volunteers who collected donations and passed out programs for the Spring concerts.

Orchestra concert is tomorrow at 7pm.

Instrumental Music Banquet is coming up this Sunday, May 21.

Prop builders - Builders may be needed this summer to build props for the fall marching show.

Band jackets – There will be a fitting before the Memorial Day parade in the band room. Letters went out to those eligible. If you are eligible and did not receive a letter please contact Denise Wolf.

Alumni – Cindy Bartus –

  • Concert in the Park, June 4th – Alumni picnic – The alumni will have the Apollo pavilion available with a catered dinner. Reservations are required by May 28th. The cost per person is $15 and is open to anyone. The concert starts at 5:30PM. Volunteers will be needed to assist Linda Rossi on June 4th with setup and clean-up.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen

  • Spring Concert - students did a nice job.

  • May 26 - Colorguard auditions

  • May 29 – Coraopolis parade

  • May 30 - New parent meeting in the band room

  • May 31 - Field commander auditions

  • June 4 - Concert in the Park

  • June 5 - Fall physicals at the HS

  • June 9 – Graduation - rehearse at 6pm

  • June 13 – Cedar Point, voluntary fun trip, cost approx. $65 per student - Students arrive @ 7am and depart 7:30am

  • The summer practice schedule has been posted. Please make note of the practices as it has changed from last year’s once a week practices to more clustered practices.

  • Aug 9 (Wed) – Kennywood Parade

  • Aug 19 – Saturday 10am-4pm – Required rehearsal with the drill writer

  • BOA Regional, Canton – This will not be an overnight since it is close.

  • PIMBA Schedule – 9/23 @ Moon, 10/21 @ Gateway (Championships) – please see the PIMBA website for the full schedule.

  • Away band camp – Camp at W&J is scheduled for July 30-Aug 4

  • Nov 2 - Army Field Band & Soldiers Chorale

  • Next year: Disney tentative departure date of Feb 13th – will be confirmed later

  • 2018 Graduation - June 8, 2018

Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz

Not present.

 

Committee Reports 

Uniforms/Jackets/Flags Crews

  • Jacket orders - There is a jacket try-on scheduled before the Memorial Day Parade. Orders are due June 9th. Base price of the jacket is $166 + $4/letter.

  • Formal wear - to add to or see the resale list please contact Denise Wolf

  • Uniforms - Need volunteers to do fittings 6/19-21; need volunteers to sew the alterations

  • Flags - We will soon be in need of cutters and sewers

Band Stand, Jenn Daugherty

Secretary, Laura Wall

Communications, Laurie Caraher

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

  • Wed, May 24 @ 3pm - need help to sort hoagies for delivery

  • Any ideas for fundraisers submit to Georganna - ideas discussed included Moon themed light up bracelets and Jenny Lee cinnamon bread

Publicity, Grace Cap

Memory Book committee will be staying after tonight’s meeting to collate the pages for the memory books.

VP Corporate Partnership, Christianne & Andy Gribben

Nothing.
