Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
The minutes from the July 2016 meeting have been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Mrs. Stathers and seconded by Mrs. Palmer.
Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo
The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Mrs. Daugherty and seconded by Mrs. Cross.
President’s Comments, Sherri VonStein
Away Band Camp - Mrs. Von Stein thanked the many volunteers who were involved with away band camp (chaperones, truck crew, parents who checked/loaded luggage, made donations, etc).
Senior Pole Notes – Thank you to Patrick Kennedy, Mike & AJ Connors, and Mark Bartus who helped hang notes on Tiger Trail.
Website - Everyone is encouraged to register on the website (www.moonband.org) as a “Parent” or “Student” as appropriate, read the website, and read the weekly newsletter. Students were given letters in June with a special access code. This code is needed to view information specific to your student such as the student account balance. If you have misplaced the letter or did not receive it please notify Mrs. Von Stein.
Chaperones Needed – We need more volunteers to chaperone the band at football games and competitions. To travel we need one nurse, 2 parents per bus (8 total) and 4-6 truck crew. Chaperones are required to have clearances. Information to obtain clearances can be found on the website. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions regarding clearances and to submit clearances.
Varsity Jacket & Band Note Distribution - We have 34 notes to distribute. Thank you to Diane & Tom Pelkington for hosting the note painting party on August 23. Please contact Mrs. Von Stein or the Pelkingtons if you are interested in helping.
Senior Rec Night – October 14 – Grace Cap, chair – Denise Wolf and Janet Estermyer are joining Grace on the committee. If you are interested in helping please contact one of these ladies. If you indicated on the volunteer form that you would like to help you will be contacted via email.
PIMBA Championships – October 29 - PIMBA Championships are being hosted by Moon this year and will require many volunteers to be successful. Please fill out the blue volunteer form. If there is an area that you would like to shadow before committing please let us know. Volunteer positions include but are not limited to: Hospitality (crowds, judges, staff), Guest Band Host, Band Stand and vendors, Parking, Clean-up, Ticketing, Programs, 50/50 Raffle, Advertising for program, Candygrams, Bake Sale, Basket Raffle, TShirts, Buttons, Alumni, Show Operations Assistant, Crowd Control, Water Truck….And More. Please watch for the Sign-Up Genius emails.
Flag cutting party – There is a tentative scheduled flag cutting party on August 25. Please watch for more information.
Alumni – “Bandanas” - Cindy Bartus - Shop with Scrip Program – The program offers a wide array of gift cards for your purchase. For each gift card that you purchase through the program, the Alumni Association receives a percentage back. Gift cards can be ordered once a month. In the months that MABPO meetings are scheduled, card delivery will be the same day as the parent meeting. Other months will be coordinated by Mrs. Bartus with those who order. If interested, parents can register online and complete the order online. Payment must be made by check no matter if the order is online or on paper. The alumni group is also taking orders for alumni apparel. Please email email@example.com with questions.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen
- Music for students can be found on the Edline page. Make sure that the students practice.
- Band Camp – This went well and much was accomplished.
- 9/2 – First football game
- 9/3 – 1st competition at Kiski
- 9/17 – BOA Regional Monroeville
- Gloves – all must buy to wear with the uniform; cash only at the uniform room for $3 per pair
- More chaperones are needed for games and competitions
Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz
- Formal wear is required for all orchestra students. There will be only one fitting. The fitting is scheduled for September 1 from 5:30pm-7pm.
- MAHS is hosting the PMEA District Orchestra in January 2017. Volunteers will be needed to help during this multi-day event.
- Pictures for orchestra students will be scheduled dependent on the formal wear delivery date (probably mid-October).
- If you have formal wear to (gown/tux) you would like to add to the resale list please contact Mrs. Wolf.
Band Stand, Jen Daugherty
We are open every home game under the home stands. Sign-up genius lists are online. We are excited about new equipment. Through a donation we were able to purchase an iPad mini and Square to allow us to accept debit/credit cards. We also received stainless steel work tables and a steam table that were removed from use elsewhere in the school district.
Secretary, Laura Wall
Volunteer clearances are now good for 5 years. The school district recently updated its policy. Anyone who is considering volunteering should complete the volunteer clearances as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Instructions can be found in our weekly newsletter. Lottery tickets – sale going on now through the end of the month. All tickets are due by August 30 to be eligible to win. Please return all tickets even if they are unsold.

Next meeting is scheduled for Sept 15, 2016 @ 7PM. Closed Executive Board meeting @ 6PM to precede the Parent Meeting.
