Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting 

May 12, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 


The minutes from the April 2016 meeting have been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Mrs. Stathers and seconded by Mrs. Kerr.


Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo 

Treasurer’s report was not given due to absence of Mr. DeNardo.

President’s Comments, Sherri VonStein 

Elections for 2016-17 MABPO Executive Board

Election Results recap was given by Mrs. Von Stein:

President – Sherri Von Stein, Treasurer – Joe DeNardo, Secretary – Laura Wall, VP Fundraising – Georganna Palmer, VP Communications – Laurie Caraher, VP Publicity – Grace Cap, VP Concessions – Jen Daugherty, VPs Corporate Partnership – Christianne and Andy Gribben.


Alumni Association – They are participating in the Shop with Scrip Program – The program offers a wide array of gift cards for your purchase. For each gift card that you purchase through the program, the Alumni Association receives a percentage back. Gift cards can be ordered once a month. In the months that MABPO meetings are scheduled, card delivery will be the same day as the parent meeting. Other months will be coordinated by Mrs. Bartus with those who order. Cindy Bartus passed out order forms. If interested, parents can register online and complete the order online. Payment must be made by check no matter if the order is online or on paper. The alumni group is also taking orders for alumni apparel. Please join the alumni organization as soon as you have a student that has graduated. Please email with questions.


Banquet invitations – RSVP for the banquet were due on April 29. The banquet is scheduled for Sunday, May 15, 5PM-10PM at The Fez. The banquet is scheduled to start at 5pm with dinner served at 5:30pm. Questions should be emailed to Mrs. Wall at


Website – The website is 99% ready. A letter with a student code will be sent home. Parents/guardians will need to register first and then will be connected to what you need to see.


PIMBA – This will require many volunteers. Laurie Caraher will take the lead on solicitation for the program ad space.


Volunteers for concert donation collections – Volunteers to take money for the orchestra concert on 5/19 have already signed up.


Band/Orchestra Varsity Jackets – Denise Wolf is coordinating the jacket order. Letters went out to all who are eligible for the first time. If you have been previously eligible and now wish to order a jacket please contact Denise. Jackets will be available for try on the day of the Memorial Day Parade.

Concessions, Jen Daugherty

We are very excited to say that the Bandstand will be upgraded before we open for the Fall season.


Secretary, Laura Wall 

Anyone who is considering volunteering should complete the volunteer clearances as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Instructions can be found in our weekly newsletter. Please email with questions and to ask for assistance.


Reminder – The deadline has passed for RSVP for the banquet. If you have not already RSVP we will not have a spot for you.

J & J Hoagies – Delivery 5/18 – forms will be available online Monday. This is the last fundraising event of the year.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen

Parade itineraries are online. We will need 8 chaperones to go with the students. Volunteers will be feeding the band in between parades at the school. The band should return to the school by 4:15pm.


Graduation – June 3 – We will rehearse at 6pm and then play at 7pm. Dress up nice.


Summer practices – June 7, 14, 21, 28 Mondays 6pm-9pm. The full schedule is online. August 22 & 23 everyone will practice 5pm-9pm to work with the drill writer.


Physicals – School district will perform physicals on June 1 at 6pm. The forms are online.


Concerts were good.


Adjudication – Students did well and received all “1”s.


Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz

Concert May 19 @ 7pm. We will need 6 parent volunteers to take donations at the door. This year we have 13 graduating Seniors. Adjudication on April 29 was successful. It was a great learning experience.

Next meeting is scheduled for July 25, 2016 @ 7-9PM. Please fill out the volunteer form and arrive at 6PM to take care of forms and band camp payments.

With no further comments or questions, a motion to adjourn was made by Mrs. Kerr and Mrs. Diehl.  The meeting was adjourned at 7:57 PM.
