Band Parents Meeting
There is a mandatory Band parent Meeting for the parents of 2024-2025 marching band members on July 22nd at 6:30PM.

We are looking for overnight chaperones for Moon Area's Away Band Camp at Washington and Jefferson College, July 28th through August 2nd.
What to expect:

Travel with the band to W and J from Sunday until Friday night. Most chaperones bring their own vehicles, but you can ride the bus if you prefer.
Chaperones typically have a private bedroom and will share a bathroom with one or two other adults in a suite setting in the dorms.
Room and meals throughout the week in the cafeteria are all covered in return for your time.
Duties to include:

Being present at all meals throughout the week.
Helping with room checks or wake up calls throughout the week.
Setting up and tearing down tents and tables used through the week.
Preparing snacks multiple times per day.
Helping to prepare snacks and/or meals for evening activities, as well as setting up a few tables for these events.
Assisting with loading and unloading of equipment trailers.
Providing support to the band during all rehearsals.

Though we have duties and responsibilities, we also have time together that has created a lot of good friendships and fun - and funny- memories.  We work hard and laugh harder.

If you are interested (even if you have already reached out), please add your name to all the dates you can come stay with us.
If you have any questions, please contact Tina at

Do you work or know someone that would be interested in making a donation to help support the Moon Area Marching Band? This year we have a tiered plan for donations. Some of the options are a shout out during a home football game and or a company logo on the back of one of our trailers to all away events.  Please reach out to Stephanie Haas VP of Corporate Sponsorships or forward the LETTER onto your contact person.  The letter is also attached to this email.

As of September 2023, if your child will be taking Prescription Medication while at Away Band (either self-medicating or having the Nurse dispense medication) a LICENSED PRESCRIBER ORDER FORM must be signed by the prescriber of the medication, completed and filed to Mr. Barthen for Away Band Camp.  We cannot use forms from the previous school year.  The form can be found at this Link.  Please start early on completing this requirement.  As we discovered in February for the Florida Trip, medical offices became cranky when numerous parents requested these signatures with little turnaround time.  FORM

The band is utilizing a NEW database management system, Presto-Assistant.  Every student/parent has an account set up.  You will receive a welcome email to the address this email has been sent to set up a PARENT Account.  DO NOT SET-UP YOUR STUDENT’S ACCOUNT, their information is already set-up into the system.  After you set up your parent account, you will be able to access the site at this web address:
This site will be used for News, the band calendar, files and handouts for the year, student band financial account information, etc.  The calendar is updated frequently and can be synced to your Google/i-cal.   Your student's band account will be updated over the next few weeks.  Please be patient while we get the system up and running.

As we move to the summer and the start of summer band, the one question I receive from parents is “What can my child do to be ready for summer band”?  My answer is always, to get them outside and acclimated to the heat.  Our activity is primarily outside.  If your son/daughter stays inside in the air conditioning all summer, then all of a sudden, we ask them to be active outside, it is not going to be a positive experience.  Encourage them to go outside and take a walk, ride their bike, whatever it may be, the more they are accustomed to the heat the less likely they will be to “wilt” once practice begins.  Remember, our practice field is an asphalt parking lot which is not as hot as a turf field, but still becomes a little toasty around 11 AM.  We do try to keep them out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day, getting outside before the rehearsals begin will help them immensely.  Our friends from Marching Health have some ideas and suggestions if your child needs a more intense plan
The second thing I suggest is to purchase a good pair of shoes.  Whatever brand you favor, make sure they are supportive, have a cushion, and have some sort of arch.  Converse Chuck Taylor’s or a shoe that does not support the arch or have a cushion is not going to be favorable for how we ask your students to perform.  Here is a link to the top 10 favorable marching rehearsal shoes from the Marching Health people. And most importantly, make sure they wear the shoe to break them in before coming to their first rehearsal.
If a student must miss a rehearsal, an e-mail or written note from THE PARENT is required.  Microsoft Teams chats or student e-mails are not valid forms of excuses.
These videos will cover the basics of marching, please have your child review these videos.  If your child is absent at the June 3-5 rehearsals, they should learn the content on this page.

Marching Band Microsoft TEAMS
Every member of the Marching Band has been invited into a Microsoft Team.  Winds (Brass/Woodwinds), Color Guard, and Percussion have their separate TEAM.  These Teams will be utilized to send music and student reminders during the season.  Please have your child check their MS TEAMS and turn notifications ON.  We will be uploading additional music throughout the month of June and July.  If your child has not received a notification to join, please e-mail Mr. Barthen (winds & color guard) or Mr. Fear (percussion).

BARTHEN ASAP!  Each student in the marching band has a drill spot on the field written especially for them.  If someone quits after the show is written, then the ENTIRE band must be rewritten to close that spot.  It costs the Band Parent Organization $50/hour to have our drill writer re-write the drill to close the spot.
