MABPO PARENT MEETING
The next band parent meeting is scheduled for September 17th at 7:00 pm. The location is the grassy area between the middle school and Beaver Grade Road, same location as the August meeting. We encourage all parents to attend, bring a chair and observe appropriate social distancing guidelines
Planning Meetings for September 26th Rehearsal/ Performance
This Tuesday September, 15th at 6:15PM, there will be two separate planning meetings held on campus.
- Senior Recognition planning meeting will take place (6:15) in the grassy area where we have been holding our band parent meetings this summer. This group will meet with the senior rec chair, Beckie Tobin, to plan for senior rec festivities that will be held after the performance on September 26th.
- general planning meeting will take place outside of the student entrance of the high school at 6:15, as well. This meeting is for anyone interested in helping to plan and organize a meal for the students the afternoon of the 26th, as well as helping to plan for the evening's performance on the 26th.
If you are interested in helping with either of these groups, please feel free to come and join us Tuesday night.
SAVE THE DATE
Parents of 2021 Seniors, a Senior Recognition Celebration for parents and seniors is planned for the evening of September 26th after the band performance. Invitations will be sent out this week.
The September raffle is ongoing throughout the month. Winners will be determined by the 7 p.m. 3 digit Pennsylvania daily lottery number. Winners will be notified via phone call.
The St. Johnsbury Candle fundraiser begins on Tuesday, September 15. Fall and holiday themed candle scents are available in 14-oz. jars and in candle melt sizes. Orders and payments are due by October 8. Delivery will be in early November. The color brochures are in the mail and will be available at the end of practices once they arrive. The "Moon Tigers" apparel orders are in! Orders will be available at the beginning and end of practices this week, September 15 and September 17. If you would like to pick up your order at a different time, please contact email@example.com.
One way our organization strives to reach its financial goals is by seeking corporate partners. Are you a business owner? Do you work for a local organization with opportunities for community outreach? If so, please consider filling out THIS FORM or passing it along to the relevant person at your place of work. If you are interested in learning more about fundraising for your band student by working at Heinz Field, please contact Karen Pritchard at email@example.com. Currently there are no scheduled events to sign up for, but stay tuned for the upcoming football season.
If you are interested in raising money for your Band student by working at PNC Park this upcoming 2020 baseball season, watch for Grand Slam Training coming soon! This is a great opportunity to start filling those accounts in anticipation of next year’s trip or Band Camp. Most parents who participate pay nothing or very little for the Band Trips. IN ADDITION students/parents are reminded to complete the COVID-19 Prescreen form before attending EVERY REHEARSAL! Students/staff who do not complete the form prior to rehearsal will need to do so with Mr. Barthen. Here is the LINK
An e-mail was sent to parents on Friday, September 11 regarding updates in our performances.
Our previously schedule game for Band #2 has been changed to Saturday, October 10 beginning at 7:00PM. This game will be televised live on the KDKA Networks (exact information will be distributed once it is known). The Full, attend #1 and Attend #2 scenarios which were outlined in the previous document still apply for this October 10 game.
FULL BAND REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES
With the changes in guidelines, we have been given the go ahead to rehearse and perform with the Full Ensemble for non-sporting events. We are going to hold a MAHS Band Night on Saturday, September 26 in our MAHS Tiger Stadium. Details regarding the number of spectators permitted will be forwarded when guidelines have been solidified, but there will be parents/spectators in attendance for this performance.
Below is an outline of events for Saturday, September 26.
- Students arrive at Stadium – 3:00pm
- Rehearse at Stadium – 3:00 - 4:30pm
- Eat and change into uniform – 4:30 – 6:00pm
- Warm-up at Stadium – 6:30pm
- Gates open for spectators – 6:30pm
- Show begins – 7:00pm
- Show Ends – 8:15pm
We are also going to be honoring our Senior Band Members during our MAHS Band Night on September 26. Additional details will be provided to Seniors and Senior parents.
CHANGES IN REHEARSAL SCHEDULE - September 22 and September 24 – Full Band
To prepare for the 9.26 performance, we will be holding Full Band rehearsals on Tuesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 24 from 6pm-9pm. Both members in Bands #1 and Band #2 should be in attendance for both rehearsals. We will be able to continue the Physical Distancing methods which have been established by the design of the marching band show. Students will need to complete the Self Health Check Form including the temperature check, wear face coverings and bring water to rehearsal. Upon arrival, students should place their items on their “Side” of the field in which they perform. Weather will play a huge factor in the success of these rehearsal. If heavy rain or thunderstorms are pending, there may need to switch back to our original split rehearsal plan. These updates will occur, if necessary, through TEAMS, REMIND, and e-mail. Additional information will be made available as soon as it is known!
If your student is going to be absent from a marching band rehearsal, please communicate with either Mr. Barthen (winds/guard) or Mr. Fear (pit/battery percussion). This will aid us in planning and structure of rehearsal. Our e-mail addresses can be found at the bottom of this document.

Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov for additional information.
