ELECTION RESULTS

The Board is the foundation of MABPO and each role is essential in its contributions to the organization and to the band but they can't do it alone. They need your support through volunteering and fundraising to make everything happen for the kids. Please consider stepping up to volunteer in some capacity this year. As I've said a hundred times, you won't regret it!

BAND BANQUET
Due to the closure for the remainder of the school year, the MABPO will not be allowed to have the band banquet on the scheduled May17th date.  We are considering moving the banquet to a summer date, but the location and date has yet to be determined.  If you have not yet sent in your banquet response you can wait until the new date is determined. If you have already sent the response with payment we can either hold your check or return it to you.  Please contact Shea at secretary@moonband.org and let her know which option. 

SCHOLARSHIP
The Moon Area Band Parent Organization, Inc. is excited to announce its 14th Annual Instrumental Music Scholarship Awards. Packets were mailed out to Eligible Seniors on Friday April 3.  Eligible Seniors can also find information on how to apply on the band website.  Application packets are available HERE.
In light of the fact that we are under a stay-at-home order, please feel free to email the letter of recommendation form to the people from whom you are seeking a recommendation. They can fill it out, scan it, and then email it back to scholarship@moonband.org, or they can mail it
A digital copy of the letter of recommendation is on the moonband.org website  HERE. Any questions can be directed to the scholarship committee at scholarship@moonband.org.
Additionally, email submission of the scholarship application and essay is also acceptable.  The deadline is still April 22, 2020.If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at scholarship@moonband.org

HEINZ FIELD
Anyone interested in raising money for their Band student by working for Aramark at Heinz Field MUST let me know BY MAY 11TH. All paperwork will be sent out to you to be completed digitally. As of right now, the Kenny Chesney concert on May 30th is still scheduled to happen. The Rolling Stones Concert in June, however, has been cancelled. Concerts are usually good events to work because the payouts are higher and the workload tends to be lighter. This would be a great way to begin to pay for the upcoming Away Band Camp without having to spend any of your own money! PNC PARK
If you are interested in raising money for your Band student by working at PNC Park this upcoming 2020 baseball season, watch for Grand Slam Training coming soon!  This is a great opportunity to start filling those accounts in anticipation of next year’s trip or Band Camp. Most parents who participate pay nothing or very little for the Band Trips. If you have interest, please send an email to moonbandaramark@gmail.com, with your contact information.  Also, if you are a Veteran of PNC Park and plan to continue, please confirm with an email.

COMMUNICATIONS
Moon Band Parent Organization has a private Facebook group where events are posted.  It is a closed group and you can request access to “Moon Area Band Parent Organization”.  You will be prompted to identify your moon band student and the year they graduate.

BAND DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS:  Mr. Nick Barthen
Symphonic Band Auditions -  Audition music will be distributed via Skyward to audition for the Honors Symphonic Band on Monday, April 27.  The audition will be done as it has been in previous years.  Students will practice the repertoire and submit a video/audio recording.  Videos will be due on Friday, May 8. 
 
2020/2021 Color Guard Auditions – Information pertaining to Color Guard Auditions will be launched on Monday, May 4.  Please stay tuned for additional details.

School Year Concerts and Performances -  With the closure of schools for the remainder of the academic year, the remaining performances and events are cancelled until June 6, 2020.   The Summer Marching Band schedule for the 2020/2021 season will be evaluated at a later date and changes released accordingly.  Please visit Skyward and www.moonband.org for all updated/changes information.

Mr. Barthen's "Official" Office Hours will be on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 10AM-11AM.  You can reach me by e-mail, then we can go from which format we can utilize.  I will be available via e-mail everyday, if you need something, please do not hesitate to contact.

On-Line Learning for Band - High School Elective time is on Wednesday's.  Please have your students check Skyward on Wednesday's for assignments.  These assignments will be due on Monday morning of each week at 8AM.

Virginia Band/Orchestra Spring Trip – Cancelled

Per the updated MASD policy, Clearances are valid for 5 years
Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov for additional information.

2. Click on "NEW RECORD CHECK" (Volunteers Only)
3. After the record check is complete, click on the blue control number
4. To view the certificate, click on the blue words "Certification Form"
5. Print the certificate and submit to the MABPO Secretary
FBI Fingerprinting click HERE
1. Cost: $27.50
2. Required for volunteers who have lived outside of PA in the last 10 years
3. Register on website
4. Take form to Cogent Fingerprinting location
5. Receive clearance and contact MABPO Secretary to arrange for original to be copied.
