Thank you to all the chaperones, medical, and equipment crew who assisted with Friday night's football game. A great big thank you to everyone who helped to prep for, chaperone, and deliver equipment for Saturday's PIMBA Competition at Kiski. Despite several changes in plans due to the weather and Moon's own campus craziness a great job was done by all! Please check this week's schedule to see if you are assisting us this weekend. A volunteer(s) is needed to assume the role of Raffle Basket Chairperson. It's not a difficult task as most baskets are provided by the band parents, band sections, and local businesses. There are only three events in which baskets are needed: PIMBA Championships at the end of October, the Pancake Breakfast/Cookie Walk in December and our event in the spring. SENIOR POLE NOTES
Senior Pole Notes are up! Please consider purchasing your child's note to be distributed after marching season ends. The price is $18.00 and payment should made to MABPO and can be dropped in the MABPO mailbox in the band room..
Our J&J Hoagie and pepperoni roll fundraiser is underway. Each delicious 16-inch hoagie is made on a Mancini's hoagie roll. Order forms are available on-line. There will be a few forms available in the band room for those who cannot print them from home. Orders and payment will be due on Tuesday, September 18. Delivery will be on Wednesday, September 26, from 4-5:30 PM, in the high school cafeteria.
We still have "Moon Band" light up bands available for purchase. The bands have on/off switches and will last for approximately 15 hours. The batteries can be replaced. Bands can be purchased in the band stand at football games or you can contact email@example.com. Each band is $5.00. Profit benefits the general fund. See photo HERE.
NewMe Pies are at the Moon Township farmer's market every Wednesday from 3-6:00, at the Municipal Building. So, if you are hungry for delicious fruit pies, please stop by.

HEINZ FIELD/PNC PARK
Fundraising through Heinz Field and PNC Park Concessions is a great way to earn money to pay for all of your child’s future band expenses. Many parents who participate pay nothing out of pocket for Away Band Camp, Disney Trips, and uniform needs. The next 2 events to work at Heinz Field are a Pitt game on Saturday, September 15th with a 9 AM report time and a Steelers game on Sunday, September 16th with a 9:30 AM report time. All necessary training can be done from home! Please contact Heather Park at email@example.com to get started.
The MABPO has approximately 20 red & white paneled golf umbrellas with “Moon Area” and the tiger logo printed on one panel. Umbrellas are $15.00 each. Moon Band Parent Organization has a private Facebook group where events are posted. It is a closed group and you can request access to “Moon Area Band Parent Organization”. You will be prompted to identify your moon band student and the year they graduate.
As a reminder, please do not post videos on social media where the general public can view them. This is especially important as we begin the season.

9/14 - Football Game vs. Baldwin – Home – Report time is 5:30PM; 7PM Kick-off

Wind Music Memorization Schedule.
Wind and percussion musicians must memorize all marching band music. This includes 3 selections for pre-game (Alma Mater, Star Spangled Banner, MAHS Fight Song), Football Halftime Show (Anyway You Want It, Africa, Final Countdown), and all 3 movements of the competitions show. Memorization tests will be done in groups of 8-10 instruments after school during the week of September 3 and finish September 12. This playing test is a weighted class grade on the first nine-weeks report cards. The schedule will be distributed at the conclusion on the August 14 rehearsal. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BEGINS TO MEMORIZE THEIR MUSIC NOW!

Distribution of access codes to the secure portion of www.moonband.org on Monday, 6/18. There are various secure folders with information located under the documents section. Music and information will begin to appear on the www.moonband.org web-site. You must login, (similar to log-in for student account balances), after successful log-in, go to the top right of the page and select Member. On the next page select Student underneath the list of folders. A page will open up containing folders of all of the music, which was posted. Open the folders and select your part to print. Check back frequently, music will be uploaded once it has been completed. If there are questions regarding parts, wind players e-mail Mr. Barthen at firstname.lastname@example.org, and percussion players e-mail Mr. Fear at email@example.com. PRACTICE YOUR MUSIC!
Bands of America Regional at The Pro-Football Hall of Fame Stadium –October 13, 2018 - IMPORTANT
The MAHS Marching Band will be defending its 2016 and 2017 AA title at the BOA Regional held at Canton, Ohio Pro-Football Hall of Fame Stadium. (Yes, this is the same stadium where the Hall of Fame game is played, Chicago vs Baltimore on 8/2 this year).
As of now, we are slated to perform between 2PM-4PM. Times will be solidified in late August. Students will be reporting to the H.S. around 9AM, departing on three motor coaches, arriving, warming-up, performance in the preliminary competition, and either watching the finals performance, or performing in the finals performance, which begins around 7:00pm. Logistics are being worked out now, this will be an extremely long day for all involved, please plan accordingly.
PSAT on October 13 – Band students who wish to take the October 13 PSAT at Moon Area High School will do so on Saturday,
October 13, 2018 beginning at 6:15AM. THIS IS EARLIER THAN THE NORMAL TESTING TIME, AND ONLY RESERVED FOR MARCHING BAND STUDENTS. This will permit band students to take the PSAT and be able to ride the band bus to Canton, Ohio for the Bands of America Regional preliminary performance. $25 cash (CASH ONLY) to Mrs. Wilhelm in room 140 by Monday, September 10 by 2:30.
Registration for BOA Regional competitions opened in January 2018, the College Board released testing dates in late April of 2018. If a student takes the PSAT at MAHS on Saturday, October 13, they will not be finished with the test in time to take the bus. Students who do not perform in the preliminary BOA competition WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE to perform in the finals competition, if the band qualifies.
Private Instrumental Lessons
Private Instrumental lessons is a great way to excel on your instrument. Not only will you learn specific techniques on your instrument, from a teacher who is an expert on your instrument, but also it will open doors to new repertoire, solo, ensemble, etc. Private lessons will also provide confidence when performing in an ensemble or auditioning for any PMEA festival. Contact Mr. Barthen for a complete list of private instructors in the area.

This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints.
