The Band Stand is still in need of several volunteers for this week's game on 8/24.  Please consider helping out.  It's a lot of fun!
Band Stand:
The Band Stand needs your help to make it run smoothly! We are asking each family to volunteer to work at least one home football game this season. You are welcome to work more if you choose. There are many jobs that need to be filled. Remember... it's always warm and dry in the Band Stand!  Sign up HERE.

We are asking for parent volunteers to help set up the Band Stand the night before the Friday night home games.  This includes things such as putting ice in coolers, preparing the drink bins, and removing equipment and supplies from the storage shed to the Band Stand and setting it up. Senior Pole Notes have been ordered and should be completed within a week or so. They will be placed on the light poles along Tiger Trail to honor our senior band members.
Please note: a pole note is displayed for every senior. We encourage senior parents to purchase their child's note at our cost of $18.00. They will be given to you at the end of marching band season upon receipt of payment. 


The 2018 Chaperone/Truck Crew Schedule has been distributed via email to all individuals who have signed up or expressed an interest via the blue volunteer form. We can still use more truck drivers and medical volunteers (nurses, MD's, EMT'S, etc.). If you are able to assist at all in these areas, please contact Andrea Ward at

Our kick-off fundraiser will be the sale of raffle tickets.  Winners will be based on the 7 PM, 3-digit PA Daily Number each evening during the month of September.  Tickets and information sheets were distributed at the band parent meeting on Monday, July 23 or mailed directly to you if you were not able to attend.  Students will receive 85% of the profit into their band accounts per each individual ticket sold.  A summary of the fall and winter fundraisers will also be included in this packet.  Ticket stubs and payment will be due on August 30, in order for the tickets to be valid for the daily drawings.  Please contact with any questions.

NewMe Pies are at the Moon Township farmer's market every Wednesday from 3-6:00, at the Municipal Building.  So, if you are hungry for delicious fruit pies, please stop by. 

Fundraising through Heinz Field and PNC Park Concessions is a great way to earn money to pay for all of your child’s future band expenses.  Many parents who participate pay nothing out of pocket for Away Band Camp, Disney Trips, and uniform needs.  The next events to work at Heinz Field are a Steelers pre-season game on August 30th with a 4:00 report time and a Pitt game on September 1st with a 12:00 report time.  All necessary training can be done from home!  There is also one more Grand Slam Training to work at PNC Park on August 29th at 5:00.  Please contact Heather Park at to get started.

The MABPO is selling large red & white paneled golf umbrellas with “Moon Area” and the tiger logo printed on one panel.   Umbrellas are $15.00 each.  If you’d like to buy an umbrella, please contact Andrea directly at 

It's that time of year again when the Color Guard will be holding their summer car washes! Please come out and support your Moon Color Guard by getting your cars, pick-up trucks, and SUV's washed. We have one remaining car wash scheduled for the summer of 2018, so please mark your calendar:
                 Saturday, August 25th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Clearview Federal Credit Union, 8805 University Blvd., Moon Twp.

Symphonic Band Fittings are on Thursday, August 23rd 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

Gloves will be available for sale in the Uniform Room from Mrs. Wolf before practice on August 21st and 23rd for $3/pair.   In the future, students will be able to purchase gloves before games or competitions as needed.  Cash or checks (made payable to MABPO) are accepted.

Student accounts are current through the July 11th Aramark game. The cost of band camp is also included. Therefore, if you have a zero balance, your student's account is paid in full. Thank you.

Moon Band Parent Organization has a private Facebook group where events are posted.  It is a closed group and you can request access to “Moon Area Band Parents”.  You will be prompted to identify your moon band student and the year they graduate.
As a reminder, please do not post videos on social media where the general public can view them.  This is especially important as we begin the season. 


Scrip gift card orders will be delivered at the Band Parent meeting on Thursday, August 16th.

August 22 – MASD Teacher In-Service Band Performance
We have been asked to perform at the Opening Teacher In-Service Ceremonies for the school year on Wednesday, August 22 at 8:45AM.  Report time will be 8:15AM and students will be done promptly at 9AM.  I understand this is last minute, but we would like all to attend who are in town and available.  Dress for this performance will be RED Moon Area Shirts and dark shorts, tennis shoes, etc.  Students will report to the high school band room, warm-up outside of the Natatorium Entrance, then process into the Auditorium to perform, then process out.  Pit and Color Guard will be on the stage performing while the winds and battery will be in the aisles.  Please make every effort for student participation. Marching Band rehearsals, as stated on the schedule, starting on August 27 will be from 6PM-9PM. 

Students will need their instruments in class for the first day of school.  Students can come into the band room before 1st period, drop their instruments in their locker.

Rehearsals for the Week of September 3-7

Due to Labor Day, we will have Full Band rehearsals on both Tuesday 9/4 and Thursday 9/6.  NO REHEARSAL ON Monday 9/3.

Wind Music Memorization Schedule.
Wind and percussion musicians must memorize all marching band music.  This includes 3 selections for pre-game (Alma Mater, Star Spangled Banner, MAHS Fight Song), Football Halftime Show (Anyway You Want It, Africa, Final Countdown), and all 3 movements of the competitions show.  Memorization tests will be done in groups of 8-10 instruments after school during the week of September 3 and finish September 12.  This playing test is a weighted class grade on the first nine-weeks report cards.  The schedule will be distributed at the conclusion on the August 14 rehearsal.  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BEGINS TO MEMORIZE THEIR MUSIC NOW!

Distribution of access codes to the secure portion of on Monday, 6/18.  There are various secure folders with information located under the documents section.  Music and information will begin to appear on the web-site.  You must login, (similar to log-in for student account balances), after successful log-in, go to the top right of the page and select Member.  On the next page select Student underneath the list of folders.  A page will open up containing folders of all of the music, which was posted.  Open the folders and select your part to print.  Check back frequently, music will be uploaded once it has been completed.  If there are questions regarding parts, wind players e-mail Mr. Barthen at, and percussion players e-mail Mr. Fear at  PRACTICE YOUR MUSIC!

Bands of America Regional at The Pro-Football Hall of Fame Stadium –October 13, 2018 - IMPORTANT 
The MAHS Marching Band will be defending its 2016 and 2017 AA title at the BOA Regional held at Canton, Ohio Pro-Football Hall of Fame Stadium.  (Yes, this is the same stadium where the Hall of Fame game is played, Chicago vs Baltimore on 8/2 this year).
As of now, we are slated to perform between 2PM-4PM.  Times will be solidified in late August.  Students will be reporting to the H.S. around 9AM, departing on three motor coaches, arriving, warming-up, performance in the preliminary competition, and either watching the finals performance, or performing in the finals performance, which begins around 7:00pm.  Logistics are being worked out now, this will be an extremely long day for all involved, please plan accordingly.

Private Instrumental Lessons
Private Instrumental lessons is a great way to excel on your instrument. Not only will you learn specific techniques on your instrument, from a teacher who is an expert on your instrument, but also it will open doors to new repertoire, solo, ensemble, etc. Private lessons will also provide confidence when performing in an ensemble or auditioning for any PMEA festival. Contact Mr. Barthen for a complete list of private instructors in the area.

Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit for additional information.
