Beginning in February, the Nominations Committee will be accepting nominations for the 2020/2021 Executive Board Committee.  If you are interested in running for a position in April, please send your name and desired position to  before the March meeting.  The Nominations Committee will prepare a slate of candidates. The Executive Board Committee includes the following positions:

VP of Communications
VP of Concessions
VP of Corporate Partnership
VP of Fundraising
VP of Publicity

The Nominations Committee should consist of 3-5 volunteers.

The Chocolate Boutique fundraiser orders are in and available for pick-up early.  Otherwise pick-up will be on Wednesday, February 12, in the High School cafeteria from 4-5:30.

Our second Hoagie and Pepperoni Roll fundraiser is underway.  Students, sell to your teachers and neighbors!  These make a great 'no cook' dinner night!  Orders and payments are due on Tuesday, February 11.  Delivery will be on Wednesday, February 19. Late orders will NOT be accepted.  Orders forms will be in the band room and HERE.

Our Spring Sarris Candy sale is underway.  Brochures and orders forms are available in the band room or on the Sarris website.  Information sheets are available HERE.  Orders and payments are due on February 18.  The NEW delivery date is April 2, just in time for Spring Break and Easter!

Our Spring NewMe's Pies sale begins on Tuesday, February 11.  Orders and payments will be due on Tuesday, March 3.  The delivery date is Thursday, April 2, just in time for Easter and Mother's Day!  Information and order forms can be found HERE

REMINDER:  The senior pole notes currently hanging along Tiger Trail will be taken down as soon as football is over. If you haven't already done so, you may purchase yours for $17.00. Moon Band Parent Organization has a private Facebook group where events are posted.  It is a closed group and you can request access to “Moon Area Band Parent Organization”.  You will be prompted to identify your moon band student and the year they graduate.

Winter Color Guard Chaperones Needed

The Naval Air-Station and Naval Base information that I e-mailed via Skyward Tuesday, 2/4 is due on Friday, 2/14.  Please READ the list of requirements and provide Mr. Barthen with the information by 2/14.  The list of requirements can be found on Skyward, or extra copies are on the table in the band room.  If there are questions, please contact Mr. Barthen.

The BOA Regional is the same date as the October SAT.  Please make arrangements to take either the August 29, December 5, or March  13 SAT TESTING.


SPRING 2020 BAND TRIP – 3rd Payment due January 30, 2020 = $115

The marching band will be traveling to Virginia Beach in April of 2020 to perform.  Numerous fundraisers are available to off-set the costs of this trip.  Please start now in order to alleviate some of the financial burden of this trip.  Forms were distributed Tuesday, October 8 after evening rehearsal explaining the payment process and the Commitment Form.  PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION!  The forms will also be posted to Skyward and

- Payments can be turned into the MABPO Box located in the band room. 
- Checks can be made payable to MABPO (Moon Area Band Parent Organization).

If case of Inclement Weather, and MASD calls one of the scenarios below, this will be the response that the MAHS Band will follow regarding Band Rehearsals before and after school.

 - 2-Hour Delay - After School/Evening rehearsals will still occur. Morning (before school) rehearsals will be canceled.
 - School Day Cancellation  - All after school and evening rehearsals are canceled.

 - Evening Activities Cancellation - All after school and evening rehearsals are canceled.
Please note:  In our ever changing weather in western PA, there may be a sudden burst of snow minutes before rehearsal begins, use your best judgment and communicate with Mr. Barthen.  It is better to miss a portion of rehearsal to wait while the roads are treated than miss the entire rehearsal.

Per the updated MASD policy, Clearances are valid for 5 years
Under PA Law Act 153, The State of Pennsylvania is requiring all adults who volunteer in any capacity within the school to obtain background checks. This will include parents who volunteer to chaperone the MAHS Marching Band at football games, parades, band camps, and trips. Chaperones are required to complete the PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse History, and FBI Fingerprints. The FBI Fingerprint is only if the volunteer has not been a state of PA resident for at least 10 years. Please visit for additional information.

4. To view the certificate, click on the blue words "Certification Form"
5. Print the certificate and submit to the MABPO Secretary
FBI Fingerprinting click HERE
1. Cost: $27.50
2. Required for volunteers who have lived outside of PA in the last 10 years

3. Register on website

4. Take form to Cogent Fingerprinting location
5. Receive clearance and contact MABPO Secretary to arrange for original to be copied.
