2017 Instrumental Music Banquet at The Fez
If you have responded that you will be attending the banquet, but you still owe money, please make payment arrangements with Laura Wall, ASAP - firstname.lastname@example.org The Instrumental Music Staff, along with the Parent Organization, look forward to honoring our 2017 graduating class and paying special tribute to all of our band and orchestra students.
The hoagie and pepperoni roll delivery date will be on May 24th from 4:00 – 6:00PM in the high school cafeteria. Please be prompt as items are perishable and we have no way to refrigerate them. If you are available to help sort and distribute the hoagies, please contact email@example.com *Georganna Palmer has collected many containers left behind at either the pancake breakfast or the spaghetti dinner. If you are missing a container, contact her at or come to the May 17th Parent meeting as she will bring all of them to the meeting.
Thanks to all seniors who submitted scholarship applications and essays. Scholarship winners will be announced at the banquet. Good luck, seniors!
Band & Orchestra Jacket Order Time
Order Forms for Band and Orchestra Jackets have been sent home to newly eligible students. This will include next year's sophomores, next year's freshmen who marched as 8th graders this year, and upper classmen who have completed one year of band or orchestra. Students will have the opportunity to try on jackets on Memorial Day before the Coraopolis Parade. It is STRONGLY recommended that a parent be present for fitting if there are questions on how the jacket will fit. Size recommendations will be made, but it is ultimately your decision. Jacket sizing is unisex. Both the band and orchestra order forms will be placed on the website at moonband.org under Info/Forms by next week. The DUE DATE for payment is June 9, 2017. In the event that your child will not be wearing their formal wear next school year, you may wish to consider listing it on our Formal Wear Re-Sale List. In early September, all parents purchasing formal wear for their students will be made aware of it. Summer Help Needed!
We are in need of help in the following areas for the upcoming 2017-18 marching band season:
Fitting Crew: No Experience Needed! The fitting crew fits our band members to a predetermined uniform. They then make notations of what may need to be altered. Training will be provided. Must be available during Music Camp (6/19/17 - 6/21/17).
Hemming Crew: Must be able to hand stitch a hem using a “whipstitch” or “over/under” (depending on what you call it). Training will be provided to explain how to read the hemming instructions for each uniform. You should also be able to sew a straight and zigzag stitch on a sewing machine, and provide sewing machine. Hemming is done at home after signing out each uniform – they are then returned upon completion. All hemming must be completed by the end of July due to away band camp and the Kennywood Parade. Hemming can start with the June fittings over Music Camp (6/19-6/21).
Cutting Crew: No Experience Needed! Training will be provided. The cutting crew cuts the individual pieces of flags out then puts together for our flag sewing crew. Must be available select evenings in August after away band camp. We cut in the art room at the high school. Good scissors that cut fabric and a good sense of fun are all that are required! Upcoming Events at Heinz Field
**The only summer event this year will be the U2 concert on June 7th. ServSafe will not be mandatory for the summer concert- only a valid TEAM or RAMP training. ** If you are interested, you can complete the RAMP training online at https://rserving.com/web/pscc_state.php?siteid=251&flag=bartender%20license&statecode=PA . The fee to complete the class online is $10. If you are interested in volunteering for the U2 concert. Please email Heather Park for more information at email@example.com.

Sunday, June 4 - Concert in the Park - Moon Township Park Amphitheater
On Sunday, June 4, the MAHS Music Department will be hosting their Concert in the Park. The Concert will begin at 5:30 with the Symphonic Band and Choirs performing. More information will be distributed as we get closer to the date.
Cedar Point – June 13, 2017
The MABPO and Mr. Barthen will be sponsoring 2 buses to Cedar Point Amusement Park on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. The cost of this voluntary fun trip is $65.00. Students will report to the high school at 7AM, departing at 7:30AM, and returning approximately at 11:30PM. Forms are available in the High School Band Room.
Private Instrumental Lessons
Private Instrumental lessons is a great way to excel on your instrument. Not only will you learn specific techniques on your instrument, from a teacher who is an expert on your instrument, but also it will open doors to new repertoire, solo, ensemble, etc. Private lessons will also provide confidence when performing in an ensemble or auditioning for any PMEA festival. Contact Mr. Barthen for a complete list of private instructors in the area.
