Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting  
December 10, 2015

The meeting was called to order at 7:11PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  
 
The minutes from the November 2015 meeting have been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Cindy Stathers and seconded by Cindy Diehl.   
 
Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo  
The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Denise Tessmer and seconded by Julie Heller.
 
President’s Comments, Sherri VonStein    
Elections Procedure Manual 
The Updated Elections Procedure Manual was introduced at the November board meeting, and it was reviewed again with those present at the meeting.  Mrs. Von Stein requested a vote by hand, and the majority of those present voted to adopt the changes to the Manual.   
 
12 month Timeline of Events 
Mrs. Von Stein asked if anyone had any questions regarding the “Timeline of Events” document that she prepared, and is now posted on the website. There were no questions from those present.  
 
Concert Parent Volunteers 
Volunteers were requested via email to accept donations and pass out programs at the Instrumental Concert on December 17th, 2015.  Six individuals have volunteered, and Karen Chodikov added her name to the list at the meeting.   
 
Alumni “Craft and Sip” 
Cindy Bartus was present to represent the Alumni Group “The Bandanas”.  The first fundraising event took place and was a success.   There will be a fundraiser dinner on January 2, 2016. Details are available on the Alumni Facebook page.  All band parents, both current and former, are invited.  The proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Moon Area Instrumental Dept. The Alumni group will be starting a “Scrip” gift card fundraising program.  Details will be available in January. 
 
Nominations 
Nomination Committee volunteers are needed. Cindy Diehl will be available to discuss if there are questions.  Volunteers also needed for the Memory Book Committee.  Mrs. Von Stein stated that opportunities are available now to shadow Executive Board positions.

Concessions, Jen Daugherty 
Mrs. Daugherty still has leftover soft drinks available for purchase.  If anyone is interested, please contact her via email.

Communications, Nancy Kerr  
Nothing to report.
 
Fundraising, Vikki Tuk/Cindy Diehl 
Black Friday Basket was won by one of the teachers. The Wreath sale has been wrapped up. The Sarris Candy delivery was this evening.  Based on total sales, the percentage that will go to the Student Accounts is 27%.   
Pancake Breakfast – Scheduled for Sunday, Dec 13 8am-12pm – Ticket prices increased $7 presale/ $8 door. Pre-Sale tickets for the Breakfast must be turned in by tomorrow, Friday 12/11/15.  Sign Up Genius donations are almost completely filled.  Still need Coffee Urns, and one gallon of Maple Syrup. Please drop off all donations in the cafeteria on Saturday 12/12/15 between 3pm and 5pm.  Student meal tickets are taken care of.  We have 11 baskets currently donated for the raffle.  Still taking donations.  If you have volunteered for set up crew, please be prompt at 7am on Sunday morning.  If you are able, bring a silicone or soft spatula for pancakes so that grills don’t get scratched. 
Cookie Walk - $10 per container – This is located just outside the cafeteria. There are tables of homemade cookies. Saturday afternoon we need help to cover trays and set out cookies.

VP Corporate Partnership, Jared Tuk 
Nothing to report.
 
Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen 
-Instrumental Concert is next Thursday, December 17th at 7:00pm.  
-Jazz Band auditions are completed.  
-Procedures for after school rehearsals in the event of bad weather will be posted to Edline, but as a general rule; if school is cancelled, there are no afterschool band rehearsals. And if all evening activities are cancelled, there will be no band rehearsals.  
-Mr. Redd will be conducting the Spring Play Pit Band.  Signups have begun.  
-Winterguard has begun.  They will participate in 5 shows, and then championships will be at California University this year.  
-Pep Band will play at 5 Basketball games, and 1 Hockey game.  
-There will be 1 rehearsal for the Marching Band before the Florida trip, and 1 rehearsal for the Symphonic Band before the trip.  Both dates are still to be determined.  
-On April 29th, the Symphonic Band will to travel to Beaver High School for adjudication.  
-The summer Marching Band rehearsal schedule has been completed.  The football schedule isn’t finalized for 2016 because of the changes with the WPIAL.  Mr. Barthen is working on concepts for next year’s Marching Band Show, and is requesting donations of scaffolding as possible props.  (7) sections of 6’ or 8’ high are requested.  He also is in search of rolling racks to hang uniforms on.  Please contact him if you can help with these items.   
 
Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz 
-The Orchestra will be performing an “Echo Concierto” with electric instruments.  Brighton Music is offering a discount to Moon Instrumental for purchase of electric instruments.  
-The Elementary School Concerts were very successful.  
-Tomorrow, all of the Honors groups will visit the Elementary Schools.  
-On Saturday the Orchestra will perform and volunteer at West Hills Food Pantry.  Thank you to Mrs. Von Stein for arranging this.  
-On Sunday, they will perform at the Pancake Breakfast.   
 
DISNEY PAYMENTS – 3rd payment DEC 16 
 
Next meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2016 @ 7PM. Meeting is preceded by a closed Executive Board meeting @ 6PM.  
 
With no further comments or questions, a motion to adjourn was made by Vicki Hricz and seconded by Cristiane Gribben.
