Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting

May 17, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7:13pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

The minutes from the April 2018 meeting have been posted.  Motion to accept the minutes was made by Cindy Stathers and seconded by Mike Connors.

 

Treasurer’s Report, Vicki Hricz

Please check the website for a current balance on your student’s account.

 

Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Andrea Ward and seconded by Denise Wolf.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen

  1. The two recent concerts were great. Thank you to those who attended.
  2. The percussion ensemble concert was a great event. The repertoire was good.
  3. May 20 - Instrumental Music Banquet at The Fez, Aliquippa
  4. May 23rd - Orchestra concert - HS & 8th grade
  5. May 28 - Memorial Day Parade - Sewickley parade in the morning and then we are done for the day.
  6. May 30 - Field commander auditions
  7. May 31 - Percussion auditions
  8. June 3rd - Concert in the Park (Moon Park Amphitheatre)-CANCELLED
  9. June 4-7 - Color guard camp and auditions
  10. June 4-7 - New marcher camp
  11. June 4 - New parent meeting
  12. June 8th - Graduation - everyone plays
  13. Summer rehearsal dates and Fall performance dates are out already.
  14. Kennywood Parade - August 8th
  15. Marching band students need physicals like sports physicals. The forms go to the Athletic Office and NOT to MR. B or the mailbox. Register online at the 8 to 18 website for the forms and instructions.
  16. Color guard will require baseline concussion testing. Appointments will be given to members who are required to have it.
  17. First music camp June 18, 19, and 20 - learn new music and drill for the football show.
  18. Other camp dates/rehearsal dates are posted online.
  19. DCI show at Tiger Stadium on June 28th. We will split the show with Gateway Boosters since it was supposed to be at their stadium. They are unable to host because the bleachers have been deemed unsafe. We will post a sign-up Genius for volunteers.
 

 

Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz

President’s Comments, Sherri Von Stein

  1. Thank you to the volunteers who accepted monies at the recent concerts: Pittsburgh Creators Project, Concert/Symphonic Band, Jazz Bands with Ralph Lalama
  2. Banquet is this coming Sunday at 5pm. It will be a great evening to celebrate our students.
  3. Thank you to everyone for allowing me to be in this position and being a part of this organization for so many years.

 

Committee Reports

 

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

  1. Thank you to everyone for helping with the Spaghetti Dinner and also to the hoagie helpers.
  2. Fundraising is done for the year.
  3. We do need someone to take over the basket raffle held at PIMBA, pancake breakfast, and the spaghetti dinner from Andrea.

 

Band Stand, Kathy Keppel

Publicity, Grace Cap

Nothing.

 

Communications, Sarah Schmitz

Nothing.

 

Corporate Partnership, Mike Connors

Nothing.

 

Uniforms, Denise Wolf

  1. Band/orchestra jacket fittings will take place before and after the Memorial Day Parade. Orders are due June 8th.
  2. At new marcher camp, we will need help measuring for uniforms.
  3. We still need help hemming.
  4. See Denise Wolf if you have questions about jackets or helping.

Membership Composition of MABPO - Vote to amend Bylaws

 

Presence of a quorum was verified by Mrs. Wall, MABPO Secretary. Of the 168 members in good standing there were 36 present as documented on the sign-in sheets.

  1. Discussion
    1. Member asked for Mrs. Von Stein to read the bylaws section pertaining to majority vote to pass the bylaws change. Mrs. Von Stein read the bylaws.
  2. Voting results
    1. Tallied by Georganna Palmer, Kathy Keppel, Laurie Crowe
    2. Results: 21 in favor of amending the bylaws, 15 against amending the bylaws
    3. The bylaws change will be effective July 1, 2018
    4. For now, processes that overlap we will be sure that volunteers are accepted and things are seamless.
    5. “A lift and shift” will occur for monies in student accounts from the MABPO to the newly formed orchestra organization. A percentage of the MABPO general fund will also be shifted to the new orchestra organization.
    6. Cross-over families will be able to decide if the student’s account will remain with the MABPO or be moved to the orchestra organization.

 

Next meeting is scheduled for 7/23/18 @ 7pm preceded by a closed Executive Board meeting at 6pm.

 

With no further comments or questions, a motion to adjourn was made by Sarah Schmitz and seconded by Lynne Vandenbosche.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:55pm.
