Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting 

April 20, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 

 

The minutes from the March meeting has been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Jenn Daugherty and seconded by Andrea Ward.

 

Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo 

The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Jamie Zelazny and seconded by Cindy Stathers.


President’s Comments, Sherri Von Stein 

Elections: A quorum was confirmed by the MABPO Secretary.

Nominations Committee – Jamie Zelazny, Cindy Stathers, Shea Corsetti – The Nominations Committee re-opened the floor to nominations. Nomination from the floor received: Mike Connors was self-nominated for VP Corporate Partnership.

After the final slate was read, the ballots were handed out to MABPO members in good standing who were in attendance. Ballots were collected and tabulated by the Nominations Committee.

Winterguard – TRWEA Championships were held April 1 at Gateway HS. The Moon Area Winterguard placed 3rd in the Scholastic A division. The guard was recently promoted to Scholastic A.

Photographer – Gloria Rauch and Deborah O’Connell have generously been volunteering to work with Jared Tuk to take pictures of the band and orchestra events. Please contact president@moonband.org if you are also interested in taking pictures.

Band jackets – There will be a fitting before the Memorial Day parade in the band room. Letters will go out to those eligible by the 2nd week of May.

Alumni – Cindy Bartus –

  • The dues year for the group will begin annually on June 1. An application will be included in the Memory Books being gifted to the Seniors.
  • Spaghetti Dinner – We will have alumni apparel, flowers, buttons, DVDs and gift cards available for purchase.
  • SCRIP – Gift cards will be available at the Spaghetti Dinner. Please continue to order gift cards. The May order is due May 12 and will be delivered on May 17. Please email alumni@moonband.org with questions.
  • Concert in the Park, June 4th – Alumni picnic – The alumni will have a pavilion available with a catered dinner. The concert starts at 5:30PM. Volunteers will be needed to assist Linda Rossi on June 4th with setup and clean-up.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen

  • PMEA Conference – The Symphonic Band performed today at the PMEA conference in Erie. They were accompanied by special guest, Dr. Hawk. The students did an excellent job and had a great performance.
  • Upcoming concerts: May 1 – small ensembles, May 8 – Symphonic/Concert/8th grade bands
  • May 29 – Coraopolis parade
  • June 9 – Graduation
  • June 13 – Cedar Point, voluntary fun trip, cost approx. $65 per student
  • The summer practice schedule has been posted. Please make note of the practices as it has changed from last year’s once a week practices to more clustered practices.
  • Aug 9 (Wed) – Kennywood Parade
  • Aug 19 – Saturday 10am-4pm – Required rehearsal with the drill writer
  • BOA Regional, Canton – This will not be an overnight since it is close.
  • PIMBA Schedule – 9/23 @ Moon, 10/21 @ Gateway (Championships) – please see the PIMBA website for the full schedule.
  • Away band camp – Camp at W&J is scheduled for July 30-Aug 4
  • Next year: Disney tentative departure date of Feb 13th – will be confirmed later

Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz

Committee Reports 

Band Stand, Jenn Daugherty

Nothing to report.

Secretary, Laura Wall 

Instrumental Banquet, May 21st, invitations will be mailed out Friday. RSVP date is April 28. Please be mindful of the due date.

Treasurer, Joe DeNardo

Communications, Laurie Caraher

Not present.

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

  • Spaghetti dinner 4/23 – Please print and post the flyer.
    • Sign-up to work the dinner or to donate supplies.
    • Sign-up to donate desserts – desserts can be store bought.
    • Make sure that your student signs up to work.
    • Drop off supplies/baskets – Sat, 3pm-5pm or by 11am Sunday.
    • Baskets – Andrea Ward – 16 baskets so far.
  • Hoagie/Pepperoni Rolls – This is the last fundraiser of the year. Forms out on Tuesday.

Publicity, Grace Cap

Spaghetti dinner – April 23, 12pm-6pm – Please print and post the flyer.

VP Corporate Partnership, Christianne & Andy Gribben

Nothing.

Next meeting is scheduled for May 11, 2017 @ 7PM. Closed Executive Board meeting @ 6PM to precede the Parent Meeting.

With no further comments or questions, a motion to adjourn was made by Carla Collier and seconded by Laurie Caraher.  The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM.
