Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting
March 16, 2017

The meeting was called to order at 7:11 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
The minutes from the January and February meetings have been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Jamie Zelazny and seconded by Ginny Kotok.
Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo
The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Jenn Daugherty and seconded by Lynne VandenBosche.
President’s Comments, Sherri Von Stein
Nominations Committee – Jamie Zelazny, Cindy Stathers, Shea Corsetti – After reading the proposed ballot, the Nominations Committee opened the floor to nominations. Nominations from the floor were not received so a motion was made to close nominations – 1st: Carla Collier, 2nd: Joe DeNardo.

Photographer – Gloria Rauch is getting her feet wet by taking pictures at the winterguard competitions. She has been working with Jared Tuk. Please contact president@moonband.org if you are also interested in taking pictures.
Scholarship – Packet is due April 17. Everything must be postmarked no later than April 17. If any piece of the application is not received or is received late, the student will be ineligible to receive the scholarship.
Website – Phase 3 construction on the website will be rolled out soon. Alumni in good standing will be granted special access. Everything has been updated including staff bios, ensemble information, and alumni stories. A special section will be added for the PMEA Conference performance. The special code that you received is good for the entire time that your student participates in the instrumental music program.
Spaghetti Dinner – Georganna will be going to the instrumental classes to speak to the students about the basket raffle baskets that we ask each section to donate. Please see Andrea Ward if you are able to donate a basket or know someone who is willing to donate. Please be on the lookout for the Sign-Up Genius for donations of supplies and desserts. The flyer is online. Please print and post everywhere. Worker sign-ups for students will have spaces to include next year’s Freshmen who want to participate. Tickets will be mailed the beginning of April.
Alumni – Cindy Bartus –
- The alumni will be sponsoring a third scholarship to be awarded at the Instrumental Music Banquet. Students should use the MABPO scholarship application.
- We will have a table at the Spaghetti Dinner with spring flowers and other items of interest such as old DVDs and alumni apparel.
- The dues year for the group will begin annually on June 1.
- SCRIP – Please continue to order gift cards. Please consider ordering a card to donate to the Spring Fling raffle. Please email alumni@moonband.org with questions.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen
- Musical was great. The pit orchestra did an excellent job. This was a really hard book of music.
- PMEA Conference – The Symphonic Band will perform at the PMEA conference in Erie next month. They will be accompanied by special guest, Dr. Hawk.
- MIOSM – The concert will take place on Tuesday, March 21. Dr. Hawk will be performing with some of the ensembles. The concert is free but everyone is required to get a ticket at the door.
- Upcoming concerts: May 1 – small ensembles, May 8 – Symphonic/Concert/8th grade bands
- May 29 – Coraopolis parade
- June 9 – Graduation
- June 13 – Cedar Point
- The summer practice schedule has been posted. Please make note of the practices as it has changed from last year’s once a week practices to more clustered practices.
- Aug 19 – Saturday 10am-4pm – Required rehearsal with the drill writer
- BOA Regional, Canton – This will not be an overnight since it is close.
- PIMBA Schedule – 9/23 @ Moon, 10/21 @ Gateway (Championships) – please see the PIMBA website for the full schedule.
- Away band camp – Camp at W&J is scheduled for July 30-Aug 4
- Winterguard – 3/18 @ East Allegheny, 3/25 @ Hempfield, 4/1 Championships @ Gateway

- Chestnut Hill, Sarris, Newme’s deliveries are all scheduled for April 6
- Hoagie/pepperoni roll fundraiser will be the last one before the end of school
- Spaghetti dinner 4/23 – Please print and post the flyer. Tickets for the dinner will be mailed out soon.
- Spring Fling Basket – Raffle tickets are due March 28. Please sign up to donate a gift card. It isn’t too late to order a gift card through the Scrip Program. Please see Cindy Bartus if you want to order.
