Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting  
April 14, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.    
The minutes from the March 2016 meeting have been posted. Motion to accept the minutes was made by Mrs. Kerr and seconded by Mrs. Stathers.   
 
Treasurer’s Report, Joe DeNardo  
The Treasurer’s Report was submitted by Joe DeNardo. Motion to accept the Treasurer’s report was made by Mrs. Daugherty and seconded by Mrs. Gribben.
 
President’s Comments, Sherri VonStein  
Elections for 2016-17 MABPO Executive Board – Per the Elections Manual, in preparation for the election a quorum was verified by Mrs. Wall. The Elections Committee Chair, Mrs. Diehl, asked for nominations from the floor. There being none ballots were distributed to those in attendance. Everyone in attendance was verified to be a MABPO member in good standing prior to distribution of ballots. Ballots were counted by the members of the Elections Committee. Election Results were announced to the group by Mrs. Diehl: President – Sherri Von Stein, Treasurer – Joe DeNardo, Secretary – Laura Wall, VP Fundraising – Georganna Palmer, VP Communications – Laurie Carraher, VP Publicity – Grace Cap, VP Concessions – Jen Daugherty, VPs Corporate Partnership – Christianne and Andy Gribben.   
 
Scholarship Applications – Graduating Seniors are encouraged to apply for the MABPO Scholarship. Deadline to submit all parts of the application is tomorrow, April 15. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded at the Instrumental Music Banquet on May 15.   
 
Spaghetti Dinner Basket Raffle – Jamie Zelazny – If you are planning to donate a basket or items for the basket raffle please contact Mrs. Zelazny.   
 
Alumni Association – They are participating in the Shop with Scrip Program – The program offers a wide array of gift cards for your purchase. For each gift card that you purchase through the program, the Alumni Association receives a percentage back. Gift cards can be ordered once a month. In the months that MABPO meetings are scheduled, card delivery will be the same day as the parent meeting. Other months will be coordinated by Mrs. Bartus with those who order. All forms needed for ordering can be found on the website. Please email alumni@moonband.org with questions.   
 
Banquet invitations – Please return your RSVP by the due date of April 29. The banquet is scheduled for Sunday, May 15, 5PM-10PM at The Fez. Questions should be emailed to Mrs. Wall at secretary@moonband.org.   
 
Website – Mrs. Von Stein met with the website people yesterday. The new website is very close to being ready to launch. We are in need of a new webmaster.   
 
Memory Books – If you haven’t sent in your child’s pictures please submit them ASAP. This applies to graduating Seniors and parents of graduating Seniors only. Next year we will need someone to take this over since Mrs. Diehl will no longer be here.   
 
PIMBA – Ideas of what we will offer include: candygrams, t-shirts, buttons, basket raffle, program – reach out to businesses, other bands – need someone to start on this ASAP. This event will require a lot of work ahead to pull this off.   
 
Google Calendar – All relevant dates for events, fundraisers, practices, etc are available on the online calendar. If you have not done so already, please consider syncing your calendar with our Google calendar.   
 
TRWEA -  The guard had a great indoor season. Mr. Tuk took pictures and videos available on our website. Mrs. Diehl maintained and altered uniforms. Mrs. Zelazny was a chaperone/nurse at each competition. We had a dedicated floor crew of 13 students. The guard received 1st place 3 times, 3rd place once, and took 2nd place at Championships beating Kiski.   
 
PMEA Adjudication – April 29 at Beaver High School – Symphonic Band will play to prepared pieces and 1 sightreading piece. Two chaperones are needed to ride the bus and assist with students. Students should bring a bag lunch to eat on the bus. The students will be gone from approximately 10:15am-2:15pm.   
 
Volunteers for concert donation collections – Please see Mrs. Von Stein after the meeting if you are available.

We are very excited to say that the Bandstand will be upgraded before we open for the Fall season.   
 
Secretary, Laura Wall  
Anyone who is considering volunteering should complete the volunteer clearances as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Instructions can be found in our weekly newsletter. Please email secretary@moonband.org with questions and to ask for assistance.   Reminder – It is very important that the banquet invitations are returned by the due date. We have a deadline by which we have to submit a headcount to The Fez. Please contact secretary@moonband.org with questions or concerns.

Fundraising, Vikki Tuk/Cindy Diehl 
Spring Fling Raffle – the gift cards were delivered to the winner last week Chestnut Hill candle sale – Deliver is tentatively set for May 5 J & J Hoagies – Sale dates 4/18-5/2 – Delivery 5/18 – forms will be available online Monday. This is the last fundraising event of the year. Spaghetti Dinner – Tickets are due 4/15. Thank you to Mrs Cross and Mrs. Cap for putting together the ticket mailing. We have utilized Sysco for food supplies. Donation/supply drop off is scheduled for Saturday, 3pm-5pm or Sun at 8am.

Band Director’s Comments, Mr. Nick Barthen 
Concert dates are posted in the band room: April – 4/25 Small ensemble concert, 4/29 Symphonic/Orchestra Adjudication May – 5/2 Concert band and Symphonic Band concert joined by the 8th grade band, 5/19 – Honors Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra concert joined by the 8th grade orchestra   
 
May 3-5 & May 9-13 – MAHS Color guard audition rehearsals – The audition will happen Saturday, May 14 @ 9am at the high school.   
 
May 18 – Field commander auditions   
 
May 23-26 – New member marching band camp at the high school   
 
Memorial Day Parades – We have two parades this year. The Sewickley parade is in the morning and the Coraopolis parade is in the afternoon. Students will return to the high school in between parades to eat.   
 
BOA Regional – Pittsburgh – September 17   
 
Banquet is set for May 15 at the Fez, 5pm-10pm.   
 
Summer Band schedule is on Edline. We will be taking off the weeks of July 5 and July 12. Mini camps will start after the break. Away camp at W&J College in Washington is scheduled for July 31-Aug 5. The Kennywood parade is scheduled for August 9. Our first PIMBA show will be September 10.   
 
Important Dates for the Fall 2016 marching season are posted on Edline. Please also refer to the calendar on the website.   
 
PIMBA Championships @ Moon – Oct 29 – We are expecting 10-15 bands. We are still in the process of getting a college band to perform at Championships. Lots of help is needed to make this event successful.   
 
Uniform Update – We will be wearing new uniforms next year. Students will need gloves which will be purchased through the shoe guy. A bulk buy of dri-fit shirts to wear under the uniform to prevent perspiration stains may be done. There will be many pieces to keep track of with the new uniform. Information about items needed and prices will be passed along as it is confirmed.   Fall Physicals are scheduled for June 1 @ 6pm at the high school.     
 
Strings Director Comments, Mrs. Megan Martz

Next meeting is scheduled for May 12, 2016 @ 7PM. Meeting is preceded by a closed Executive Board meeting @ 6PM. With no further comments or questions, a motion to adjourn was made by Mrs. Diehl and seconded by Mrs. Kerr.
