Moon Area Band Parent Organization

January 21, 2021

Submitted by Amy Clark, Secretary MABPO

Meeting began at 7:10pm. The pledge of allegiance was recited.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

Welcome everyone! We have lots to talk about tonight.

Treasurer, Ralph Canterbury

Ralph gave the treasurer’s report.

Our general fund is ok, but we are several thousand dollars behind where we were last year.

Ralph recommends opening a CD for the purpose of earning more interest on our general fund money. There is really no risk. The most we stand to lose is the $.88 interest we are earning each month.

Motion to accept the treasurer’s report by Shari Ruppel. Seconded by Christianne Gribben.

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

Chocolate Boutique orders are due on January 26.

Sarris Easter candy sale starts next week. Orders due on February 16.

NewMe pie sales start February 2nd and will be delivered in time for Easter.

DiBella’s hoagie fundraiser is in the works. No dates have been set yet.

Beckie Tobin

Tropical Smoothie fundraiser will be in February

RMU catering fundraiser possibly in March

Band Director, Nick Barthen

Concert on Feb 4th. Rehearsals on Wednesday, Feb 3rd.

Kids should arrive at school by 2:30 or 2:45 for rehearsal.

YouTube links will be emailed. Feel free to share with relatives who usually can not come to concerts. Please don’t widely share on social media.

Tuxes and gowns should be worn for symphonic band/dressy clothing for concert band.

Winterguard is in full swing. A minute of the show is done so far. TRWEA is not sure what is going on yet. OIPA is doing all virtual shows. Fridays will be recording days and shows must be submitted by Sunday. FlowMarching will broadcast the shows for OIPA. WGI regional will be virtual – sometime in March.

Musical pit is not winds, only string instruments.

May concerts may be simulcast, but we may use the Moon Park amphitheater.

Summer schedule is out. The show is done except for the closer.

W&J – not sure if we can go there just yet.

PIMBA championship is October 23.

BOA regional is September 25th in Fortress Obetz. There are no SATs or ACTs scheduled for that day.

Once football schedule comes out, we will know PIMBA competition dates.

Thank you so much to all of you parents who have worked to make band possible this year.

Amy Patterson, MABPO President

Golf outing will be May 15th at Shadow Lakes in Aliquippa.

Chris Cox, MABPO Golf Outing coordinator

Chris talked about the plans being made for the golf outing so far.

Gift baskets are a nice fundraiser during the outing.

Local businesses needed to sponsor holes. Personal sponsorship for holes will also be available.

Large prizes will be procured for raffle tickets.

50/50 will generate easy money.

Volunteers will be needed! Should we have students volunteer? Can students play in the outing?

Amy Patterson, MABPO President

Planning meeting for the golf outing will be scheduled soon. If you’d like to help, please join us.

Students are permitted to play in the golf outing, but they must have an adult in their foursome.

We’d like to start advertising for the golf outing very soon.

We need people to work on the nominations and scholarship committees. These are very easy positions for volunteering!

Georganna needs a lot of help with the memory books!

Senior parents will be asked for baby pictures soon via email.

Motion to adjourn by Ralph Canterbury and seconded by Beckie Tobin at 8:00pm.

Next meeting will be February 18, 2021 at 7:00pm
