Moon Area Band Parent Organization

November 19, 2020

Submitted by Amy Clark, Secretary MABPO

Meeting began at 7:05pm. The pledge was recited.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

Welcome. Sorry we’re on Zoom, but at least we’re here!

Treasurer, Ralph Canterbury

Ralph gave the treasurer’s report.

General fund – hopefully there will be enough in there to support a full band season next year.

Motion to accept report by Christianne Gribben and seconded by Beckie Tobin.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

An email went out to parents to make sure everyone understands what the general fund is for.

We spend $40,000 each year. It would be nice to bring in about $3,000 each month.

Trying to get ahead with fundraisers.

Trailers are in bad shape and we need to find replacements.

We need community involvement and support for our kids. We need parents to get the word out.

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

All pies were picked up yesterday.

Only 7 Sarris orders, but we will make 27% profit.

Cookie walk is cancelled – we don’t have permission to use the cafeteria for sorting and pickup.

We need ideas to make up for the loss of profit with the cookie walk.

Next student account fundraiser – Valentine chocolate boutique.

Event Fundraising, Beckie Tobin

Trying to pump up general fund.

Car wash – awesome! We raised a lot of money and the kids had fun.

Chipotle – will be 33% profit! We should know soon.

Poinsettia orders close tonight. Order will be called in tomorrow morning and pickup will be December 4th.

AR Workshop was a fun parent activity.

Maybe an ax throwing outing?

Moe’s fundraiser will be Dec. 8th. Pickup will be in the upper parking lot near the stadium.

Would be great to do a dine-to-donate event each month.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

We need more social events for band parents to hang out and enjoy each other outside of football games, competitions, etc.

If anyone has ideas, that would be great.

More dine-to-donate would be great.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Band Director, Nick Barthen

New virtual plan – as soon as announcement comes out tomorrow, Mr. B will let us know on Monday what plans are.

No audience members in the auditorium for concert. Livestream instead.

Concert band will go first if we do it , percussion in middle, symphonic band last.

Tech department is testing the livestream on YouTube. Sound and picture are really good.

If concert is not performed in December, it will happen in January. We will perform at some point. Right now, we are moving forward with plans as they are.

Depending on our virtual schedule, practice dates may change.

Small ensembles – hopefully we can move forward with them.

Sign up on Microsoft Teams form for small ensembles.

WinterGuard – will depend on what sports teams are doing. They have already started the show. May split the group between weapons and flags. Smaller groups work well.

We will make this as good as we can for the kids while staying safe.

WinterGuard will not be cancelled. It goes until the end of April.

Competetive schedule hasn’t been released yet from TRWEA. We will also go outside the circuit since it’s all virtual.

Jazz band audition music will be out on Monday 11/23 – no one gets cut!

Practices will start in January – Tuesdays Jazz 1 and Thursdays Jazz 2

Summer schedule will be out soon. Mr. B has a PIMBA meeting for next season on December 4th

We may do 2 BOA regionals next year

Florida trip February 2022 – planning will start soon

Pit orchestra for the musical, but no winds. Percussion and guitars. Have your kids see Mr. B in January if they’re interested.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

Keep an eye out for fundraisers on social media and emails.

Next meeting info will go out on our social media and email.

Motion to adjourn by Beckie Tobin and seconded by Maria Johnston

Next meeting (virtual) will be December 10, 2020 at 7:00pm
