Moon Area Band Parent Organization

October 15, 2020

Submitted by Amy Clark, Secretary MABPO

Meeting began at 6:37 pm.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

Thank you to everyone who helped with the band performances on September 26.

Thank you to the Senior Rec committee.

Treasurer, Ralph Canterbury

Ralph gave the treasurer’s report.

The audit was completed and submitted to the board tonight.

Motion to accept treasurer’s report: Sarah Schmitz. Seconded by Laurie Crow.

Fundraising, Amy Patterson

Fundraising is down about 25% over the last couple of years. Not having a concession stand this year hurt the general fund.

Pancake breakfast is unlikely due to COVID.

Look for info about things to come – ideas for the future.

Band Director, Nick Barthen

Thanks for the help on the 26th. It was awesome.

We tried to give the kids as normal a season as we could.

Show created challenges, but very happy with performances.

Marching season is done. There could possibly be a playoff game, but no details at this time.

Trunk or Treat is cancelled due to COVID concerns. Admin recommended against it.

Kids are doing great in class – love seeing them there in person.

Winter concert – December 22nd

Three possible plans for concert:

1 – Perform in person with immediate families in attendance

2 – virtual concert – kids dressed and playing for a livestream

3 – pre-taped concert – this could present copyright issues

K-8 are doing taped concerts only due to high attendance at these concerts.

High school auditorium has livestream capability.

Kids have been doing a great job with bell covers and sanitizing.

Jazz band auditions will occur in mid-November.

Don’t put the bell covers in the washer! Wipe clean with a Clorox wipe.

September 26 performance is not on the website yet. It will be there soon and can be shared with family.

Spooktacular at Moon Park 5-6 pm on October 21. Kids will play in amphitheater. Sign up coming soon.

December 5 – small groups will play for Light Up Night.

MABPO President, Amy Patterson

We have extra fabric for additional bell covers if needed.

Amazon Smile – it works! Please use it if you aren’t already doing so.

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

September lottery raffle – winners were called. No one won the big pot.

NewMe Pies – orders due October 20th. Orders and payments can be placed in the bandroom mailbox.

Sarris – flyers available on the Table of Knowledge in the bandroom on Tuesday, October 20th. Candy will be delivered in time for Christmas.

Possible poinsettia sale?

Pancake breakfast will probably not take place.

Bountiful Basket raffle will be pushed back and we will have a Superbowl Yeti raffle instead.

Band Director, Nick Barthen

Band trip to Disney (February 2022) planning will begin soon.

All expenses for this trip are included in the cost except for souvenirs.

Kids will miss 3 days of school. This trip is NOT mandatory!

Cost will be ~ $1200

Planning is a 15-month process.

We are planning on having a competitive marching band next year. Possibly 2 BOA regionals and PIMBA.

Fundraising will help a lot.

  • Buses to BOA alone are about $6,000
  • Competition budget doesn’t include our expenses, such as providing meals for the kids

MASD is very generous with funds. They give us several instructors for band camp.

We still need money in the general fund.

The district pays for buses to go to games. Mr. Balaski is very supportive.

Motion to adjourn by Maria Johnston and seconded by Ralph Canterbury at 7:23pm.

Next meeting will be November 19, 2020 at 7:00pm
