Moon Area Band Parent Organization

Meeting called to order at 7:08pm. The pledge of allegiance was recited.
Band Director, Nick Barthen
PMEA District band was held last week at West Mifflin High School. Nick Patterson, Dom Colangelo, and Joe Palmer attended. Nick is moving on to Region band at the end of March.
Region band is being held at MAHS, so volunteers will be needed!
Three students attended District orchestra: Alyssa Lucente (violin), Alex Owcarczek (bassoon) and Lauren Radeschi (flute). All are moving on to Region orchestra at North Allegheny in the second week of March.
Two students made honors jazz band at Pine-Richland.
Nine students attended WACA at Chartiers Valley HS.
Jr. High District band is at the beginning of March at Montour. Two students will attend: Jay Sofranko and Michael Gallagher.
Musical runs March 19-22. Pit orchestra is going well.
Jazz band 1 is playing April 13 at Jergel’s.
Winter Guard did well at first show at Norwin. The show and props are done. Next show this weekend at Penn-Trafford.
Music in Our Schools concert is March 24th. Symphonic band will be playing. Percussion ensemble is not playing. Theme is the soundtrack from Disney.
Virginia Beach trip coming up in April. Final invoice coming soon. The itinerary is not set yet.

Thank you for coming to the FLOVE concert. Mr. Barthen will get a list to Karren Wood for the kids who earned money from ticket sales.
Band banquet is May 17
Memorial Day parade is May 25
Graduation is June 6 at RMU
Summer band practices will follow the same schedule as last year. Production rehearsal will be on August 15. The show is almost done!
BOA will be October 3 at Columbus. Students should NOT take the SAT on that day. Take SAT on August 28 or December 5.
The band will be at all football games next fall, but unknown if some games will be as a pep band.

Treasurer’s report was given. Motion to accept by Mike Howell. Seconded by Sherri Ruppel.

Sign-up Genius will be sent out for Region band at MAHS. Help will be needed in 2-hour shifts.
Renee Cunningham volunteered to be the night nurse for Region band. Thank you, Renee!
We provide food for Region band and then MABPO is reimbursed.
Executive Board talked in their meeting about expenditures vs. money coming into the band. Parents are asked to try to fundraise more for the general fund. General fund pays for things like hoagies on competition days, buses, staff, etc.
New fundraising ideas were discussed. Mike Howell mentioned maybe raffling off a car? Andrea is going to make some phone calls.

Scott from the mattress sale may come talk to us at one of our meetings. The band gets $5 for each family that comes to the meeting.
Memory books are underway.
Sr. parents – an email will be coming asking for pictures for memory books. Do not send band pictures!

Amy Patterson proposed a change to the by-laws at last month’s meeting. Any changes to the by-laws must be posted for one month for member review. There was some discussion about who can sign checks if the new VP position is approved.
Motion to post the proposed change to the by-laws by Georganna Palmer. Seconded by Beckie Tobin.
