SEPTEMBER 2019

Moon Area Band Parent Organization

September 17, 2019

Submitted by Shea Corsetti, Secretary MABPO

Meeting called to order at 7:09pm. The pledge was recited.

Band Director, Nick Barthen

We are off to a good start with a good first show. There were some mistakes and we have lots to add to the show, but they are handling everything we've given them.

Our show is about the pitfalls of social media. The Norwin PIMBA was pretty bare bone for our show, we will be adding more visually.

We will need help once the vinyl’s come in to make the judge blockers and props before BOA.

Uniform crew will need help sewing a strip of velcro on the uniform pants. Seamstress crew raised hands and volunteered.

  • Flomarching has subscriptions if you are unable to travel to BOA bout would like to watch.
  • BOA forms are due Monday 9/23/19.
  • BOA report time 7am.
  • Fortress Obetz is pretty easy to get to but there is not much around as far as places to eat.

Next week is the last week for M, TU, TH rehearsals. Rehearsal is 6-9 not 7-9, there was a typo in the schedule.

Band Notes and Jackets will be distributed Thursday the 19th at 8:50pm.

  • Football @ Bethel Park this Friday. 8th grader will be joining us.
  • PIMBA at Moon October 12th
  • PIMBA Championships at Gateway October 26th.

Woodland Hills will have a pep-band of volunteers. STA donated two buses. We are not marching, we will play half time from the stands.

MABPO President, Andrea Ward

Check your email, FB or Newsletter for t-shirt, dedication ads and band note order forms.

PIMBA is a Moon October 12th.

We will host 6 bands. It is a much smaller scale, no raffle baskets, regular concessions.

We need volunteers for the following:

  • Parking/traffic
  • Programs
  • 50/50 for Chris Speanburg
  • Candy Grams
  • Guest Band Host
  • Judge Host
  • Concessions
  • Market Place
  • Cookie Bakers
  • Chaperones
  • Clean Up Crew
  • Set Up Crew
  • Ticket Sales
  • Hospitality Tent

Candy Grams will be sold and we will offer pre-sales. Look for an order form to come out soon. Candy grams are a nice way to give your kid or other band kids a nice note and some candy. They will be delivered to the kids at the end of the night. Pre-orders are great for those who are volunteering that night and might be too busy to make it to the candy gram tent.

Our cookie table will have containers of delicious mixed cookie to purchase so you have a sweet treat to eat while you watch the show.

Dedication ads are 1/4, 1/2 or a full page ad that you create for your student to celebrate them.

Band Notes are little "shout outs" that you can post for your student or anyone you'd like.

The Alumni Association will be feeding our students dinner that night. The concession stand prepares all of the food and the alumni pick it up, serve it and clean up.

BOA is a national organization where bands come to compete from several states.

PIMBA is a competitive band circuit in western PA.

We are still in need of chaperones for BOA. Contact Andrea if you are available please.

We are looking for someone to drive the bus drivers to their hotel at BOA where they will nap in order to be alert for the drive home.

A special thank you to Mrs. Tobin for donating the batteries for all of our prop lights the kids will use for the competition.

We are in need of volunteers to wash the trucks. Please contact Andrea if you can help.

A special thank you to our nurses, truck crew and chaperones. We couldn't do it without you.

We will have a tent set up at the homecoming carnival selling umbrellas, light up bracelets and cups.

Alumni, Cindy Bartus and Sherri VonStein

Cindy explained what scrip is and how it works. It is an alumni fundraiser and it is used to support the band. Orders are due the Friday before the next band parent meeting. Scrip cards can be purchased for the bountiful basket, holidays, spring fling fundraiser and graduations!

The alumni provide the band with dinner at Moon’s PIMBA as well as provide a scholarship at the end of the year banquet.

We have a NEW alumni board.

President, Sherri VonStein

V.P. Cindy Bartus

Treasurer, Joe DeNardo

The alumni association hosted a successful beer tasting and is looking into other fundraisers. We are here to enhance what you do. If you have any wish list items or if there is anything you would like to see us do, we are open to suggestions.

To be in the alumni association you must register, pay the dues and be a graduated student of the band or band parent of a graduated band student.
