Moon Area Band Parent Organization

August 22, 2019

Submitted by Shea Corsetti, Secretary MABPO

Meeting was called to order and the pledge was recited at 7:04pm

Andrea welcomed everyone and called Karren Wood up to give the treasures report. A motion to accept the treasurer’s report was given by Amy Patterson and seconded by Shari Rupple.

President, Andrea Ward

Thank you for all those who helped make band camp a great success. We encourage you to volunteer next year whether you can make it one day or all five, we can’t do it without chaperones and truck crew.

We have a busy exciting season upon us. We expect things to be fluid. We need volunteers to chaperon football and competitions. There will be more equipment to push at the competitions and we will need more volunteers for that. You will be plugged in where we can use you most. If you signed up for a particular date you will be emailed ahead of time if you are assigned that date. Report time is the same as the kids. If you are unable to make it at that time please let Andrea know ahead of time. You do not need a ticket to get in the events if you are chaperoning. BOA takes coach buses and we feed you lunch and dinner. You must have clearances on file with our secretary, Shea Corsetti, in order to chaperone.

Senior poll notes have been ordered and will be hung on Tiger Trail. They cost $17 and you get to take them home and keep them once they come down. They look great as decorations at graduation parties.

Senior Recognition is August 30th and we are still in need of volunteers to help with concessions. We have 6 signed up and we need 12. They band does not perform at halftime so you will not be missing a show.

Senior Recognition is a night in which we take time to honor the seniors and their parents with dinner and special surprises.

We’d like to give Allison Hellhake a shout out for painting our senior yard notes.

If you are unable to volunteer your time, concessions is always in need of food to be made and donated such as pierogies, haluski, and more.

Band Director, Nick Barthen

  • Thank you to the volunteers at band camp. We accomplished a lot this year.
  • Tech rehearsal was awesome, the best in years. Rob and Tom were very complimentary of the kids.
  • The kids are doing lot of movements on their knees, they should all have kneepads. We will work on the ballad next week.
  • School starts Monday, the kids need to bring their instruments every day, they will play in class. This year’s concerts are posted on Skyward and all start at 7:30pm.
  • Football is away this Friday and Senior Recognition is next Friday at home. The September calendar is posted.
  • PIMBA at Norwin is September 14th
  • BOA will have a 7am report time and will be an all-day event
  • There is a permission form coming home for BOA with an itinerary. There are no hotels off of the exit, if you want to stay overnight check one or two exits down. We need chaperones and it is a flat surface to push equipment.
  • Moon PIMBA is October 12 and we will need lots of volunteers to make the day a successful one.
  • PIMBA Championship are at Gateway October 26th.
  • We need help with building props, please let Barthes or Andrea know if you can help with that.
  • Color guard flags have been ordered.

If your kid runs cross country or is in a sport that is right before band practice please make sure they take care of their body. Take time in between events to eat and rest, then come to band. We want them to be successful and a kid should not have to ever choose between sports.

This is a trip year to Virginia Beach. We will be leaving April 23rd and returning April 26th. More information will be coming home soon.

Please be checking skyward, the band website and the remind app for band information. Nothing personal will ever be on twitter, it will only ever be general information.

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

Everyone should have received 6 lotto tickets. If you need more let Georganna know.

Hoagies start Tuesday. Delivery is September 25th from 4 to 5:30pm. You MUST pick them up, there is no refrigerator to store them in.

Every fundraiser has a PDF order form on line and we will have some in the band room on the table of knowledge as well.

There is a typo on the fundraising master form. The event that starts November 6th is actually December 6th.

May 3rd is the mattress sale.

August 24th is the color guard carwash from 9am – 1pm at Clearview credit union.

September 19th is Chestnut Hill

September 24th is NewMe pies

Fundraising helps to offset the cost of trips, band camp, lunches during competitions etc.

Photos are up on Smugmug!

Corporate Sponsorship, Maria Johnston

We are always looking for businesses to sponsor our band. We are the only school in our area who do not charge to be in the band, making is accessible to all kids regardless of their circumstances. If you know someone with a business or if you would like to partner with us please talk with Maria. She will do the footwork, she just needs a conact. Sponsors get things like advertising in the PIMBA program, website ads, their name on our truck etc. depending on the amount of sponsorship.

Motion to adjourn the meeting by Amy Patterson and seconded by Lori Crow. Meeting adjourned at 8:18pm.

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday September 16, 2019 @ 7:00pm.

Meeting is preceded by a closed Executive Board meeting at 6:00pm.
