Band Director, Mr. Nick Barthen

Thank you to those who came to see the Music in our Schools concert, it was a great show.

The school’s musical Mamma Mia was awesome.

Winter Guard championship is at Norwin this Saturday, we go on @ 5:27pm. Congratulations for placing first last week.

We have our spring concerts coming up. Mr. Barthen tried to make the rehearsal dates as accommodating as possible around other sports/activities. See schedule for rehearsal dates.

Concert Dates:

  • Percussion, May 6th @7pm
  • Jazz Band, May 10th @ 7pm
  • Concert and Symphonic Band, May 13th @ 7pm
  • Orchestra, May 23rd @ 7pm

For the Love of Music concert by the B Taylor Family Band will be featuring Rock N Roll music. Do not miss this show, it’s going to be great.

April 27th @ 7pm

$20 per ticket

Jazz band will play a set in the hall before the concert. Select choir, orchestra and band members will be playing with the B Taylor Family Band as well.

Proceeds benefit the music department.

Congratulations to Alex Owczarzak who is headed to PMEA All State Conference!

Looking ahead:

  • June 10, 11, 12 Music Pre-Camp
  • June 13th Cedar Point
  • Off for 5 weeks
  • July 23, 24, 25 Mini Camp
  • July 29- August 2 Home Band Camp
  • August 4-9 Away Band Camp
  • August 12th begins 2 a week rehearsals

We will not be traveling to Pine Richland or Woodland Hills games this fall. We will not be participating in the Kennywood parade this year. Transportation budget has been cut and we are looking for ways to scale it back.

  • BOA is September 28th in Akron, OH.
  • October 5th is Homecoming
  • October 12th is PIMBA at Moon
  • October 26th is Championships at Gateway, if the kids want to go.

Next year’s trip is tentative, please DO NOT book anything; this has not been approved, but we are looking at Virginia Beach. It will cost a lot less than Disney but will still be a lot of fun for the kids. Disney will alternate, and each band member who participates all four years will have an opportunity to go to Disney at some point. Next Disney year will be 2022.

We were awarded Best in Music for the 6th year in a row. Congratulations to everyone.

Treasure’s Report, Vicki Hiriks

Treasures report submitted by Vicki Hricz. Motion to accept by Amy Patterson, 2nd by Carla Collier.

President, Andrea Ward

We need to fill the Treasurer and VP of Corporate Sponsorship Executive Board positions for next year.

Our annual banquet is coming up, May 19th at The Fez, parents are welcome; please come. It is a lot of fun. Invitations will be coming soon.

In the works:

A possible Alumni fundraiser. It is not booked yet, but keep your eye out for details to follow soon. We are looking at a possible date of June 2nd at the Cobblehaus in Coraopolis. Cost is not yet determined, but it will be limited seating. More details to come later.

Mattress Sale:

Please start advertising. This is our spring fundraiser in lieu of the spaghetti dinner. Flyers will be going out soon. There is the potential to earn a lot of money. Student workers are needed but space is limited. They will not be schlepping mattress around, just advertising around the event that day. Again, this is a great chance to earn quick and easy money for your students account for next year’s trip.

Publicity, Grace Capp

Nothing to report on publicity.

If you would like to help with memory books please contact Georganna or Grace. Even one or two pages help us out tremendously.
