Moon Area Band Parent Organization Meeting

January 17, 2019

The meeting was called to order at 7:09pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The minutes from the December 2018 meeting have been posted.

 

Band Director, Nick Barthen

  • Kids had a good concert run. There were some problems but overall a good first concert.                                                                                                                                                                                                
  • Congratulations to Alex Owczarzak for receiving first chair at his competition.
  • We have 8 students going to WACA.
  • Next weekend is PMEA District Band at Cornell.
  • February 1st and 2nd PMEA Honors Jazz Festival at N. Allegheny.                                                      
  • Winter Guard is in full swing and doing well.
  • WG first TRWEA show will be February 9th at Norwin.                                                                 
  • Music in Our Schools is March 19th.
  • Symphonic sectionals begin next week.
  • May 6th Percussion Ensemble Concert- 7pm
  • May 10th Jazz Ensemble Concert- 7pm
  • May 13th Spring Band Concert- 7pm                                                                                              
  • June 10, 11, 12th is our Mini Camp.
  • Cedar Point after that.                                                                                                                       
  • We are waiting on W&J for Away Band Camp dates. See newsletter for the two scenarios for planning purposes only. You will be notified of which schedule we will be using as soon as we know.
  • After Away Band Camp we will go back to two a week practices.                                                  
  • BOA will be on September 28, 2019.
  • We will only be doing about 4 shows next year.
  • We will not be participating in PIMBA Championships. We will be doing other things, and the kids do know.

 

President, Andrea Ward

We are talking about a new Spring Fundraiser and looking for new ideas.

We will be losing some of our senior parents on the Executive Board and will need to fill their positions. If you are interested or know someone who would be good at one of these volunteer positions please let us know.

Positions Opening: Treasurer, Publicity, Honorary Board Position of Aramark Coordinator; we have one seat filled and are looking for a second. We also need a shadow for President to follow Andrea to train for the following year.

We need all of our parents to be involved in some format. Please do not feel that you can’t help because you are unfamiliar; we will train you. The kids do like to see us there supporting them too. Your kid may not want to sit next to you on the bus, but they do want you there and we need you. With that being said, if we do not have enough parent volunteers stepping up the kids things will have to be cut. We need active involvement in order to support our kids. We are looking forward to a new year with new things but it’s dependent on you.

Parent Social- We are looking for fun ways for our parents to get together and socialize. Stay tuned for more information.

May 19th is our Band Banquet. Do not let your band student tell you it’s just for them, parents are invited too.

We will be forming a Nominations Committee and will need a few volunteers to head it up. Please consider being a part of the committee.

 

Treasure’s Report, given by Andrea Ward on Vicki Hricz behalf

Vicki is ill so Andrea presented the Treasurer’s report. Motion to accept by Mrs. Wolf and seconded by Mrs. Patterson.

 

Fundraising, Georganna Palmer

  • Currently we have the Chocolate Boutique fundraiser going on.
  • Next fundraising opportunity will be Coffee, look for it soon.
  • All fundraising flyers can be found on the Table of Knowledge.
